My first mid size truck was a Dakota, I really liked that truck.
At the time the Dakota was the only mid-size that offered a v8.

I would consider a new Dakota if they offer a v8 in it.
Same as I would trade both my Ranger Raptors if Ford offered them with a v8.

With the rumors being the new US Dakota will be built alongside the Gladiator, and they already have a 392 Hemi v8 in a Jeep wrangler, I don’t see it being that much of a stretch for there to be a new v8 Dakota in the works.

‘This was my new 2008 V8 4x4 Dakota Laramie taken back in early 2009.

Had a '93 Dakota, regular cab, 2x4 with the V8, my tuned Lariat was quicker and goodness knows my Raptor is MUCH faster. My Dakota fouled several injectors about every 10K miles. dealer (idiots) couldn't figure out why, blamed the gas, etc., never did figure out the cause. I would upgrade my Raptor if it came out with a V8 ")

It's looking more likely that the Dakota will be on its own frame and chassis, and will not share with the Gladiator after all. I'm thinking that the only reason they'd do that is because they want to increase payload/towing even more, AND they likely want to do a TRX version to compete with Raptor and ZR2 and that would need better frame reinforcements for high speed jumps.

This is a strong clue that they are taking Dakota seriously.
