We collect your state vehicle sales tax (not county taxes) and add that to the purchase agreement. When your vehicle arrives, we will request that you provide us who to make that check payable to. Once the paperwork is signed, we take the MSO (Certificate of Origin) and the signed paperwork to our county here and they populate us with an in-transit Iowa title (replacing the MSO). it typically takes 2-3 weeks to get that back. Once we get the title back, our title clerk cuts a check to the respective office (whoever is responsible for collecting your state taxes, i.e., dept of revenue, sec of state, dmv, etc) and provides a 30-day temp tag and puts this in the mail via UPS overnight to your address. Once you get that UPS package, you will take that to the respective office and pay your tax, title, registration and turn the Iowa in-transit title into your state's title. For you guys that have bought out of state from Granger Ford. How did the taxes go? Do they give you a check for taxes the day you purchase the truck or does it get mailed to you at a later date? Also is the check made out to you of the Secretary of State for your state? I asked the salesman and and didn't really get a straight answer and said he will talk about it when the vehicle gets built. He mentioned it would be mailed out within a couple weeks after purchasing the truck. That seems like a long time because can't register the vehicle until taxes are paid. Plus I don't want to pay out of pocket for taxes and then they send a check made out to the Illinois Secretary of state.
Your vehicle leaves the lot with a 15-day temp tag on the back window. If you are picking up the vehicle in person, you will leave with a copy of all the signed paperwork. If you are shipping your vehicle, please print off the paperwork and put it in your glove box until the UPS package arrives. The temp tag will likely expire before the title and check arrive, but as long as your have the purchase paperwork in your vehicle, you are good to drive for 30 days.
