I suspect it all comes down to production/manufacturing scheduling at the factory. What parts are available for orders that have been placed regardless of those being stock or retail. Which units can be built with the most efficiency and at the least cost to Ford . I don’t think they put a priority of retail over stock orders without considering these other factors.
Maybe. But thinking about it through a business standpoint. If I was selling something and had orders placed by someone wanting to buy or orders placed by a business wanting it to sit and wait to be sold, I think I’d fill the ones wanting to be bought and not the ones to sit. But hell what do I know, I’m only speculating. I’m definitely not in the auto industry

Does it really matter if the final customer is known? The dealer buys the vehicle once produced/shipped by Ford whether it is retail or stock. Shouldn't make any difference in scheduling production.

Most likely your dealer changed it. Because back in June there was a lot of confusion about ordering stock or retail. When’s the last time you spoke to the salesman or dealership?
No, they never changed it. I asked them to change it to retail when I was reading on the forum about changing it to retail and he told me it wouldn’t matter. I got a build date a month later. So who knows
