Production Priority to Retail Orders before Stock Orders

As it sounds like Ford is giving priority to Retail Orders before Stock Orders it doesn't look good for my dealer to be getting any of the Rangers he has on Stock Order for his lot. I see posts talking about the dealers converting Stock Orders to Retail Orders (that assumes the dealer has a firm sale) but is that really possilbe ? About the time Ford fills all the Retail orders they will probably be giving priority to Broncos.

My understanding is a Retail order has to have all buyers personal information on the order, copy of drivers license, etc. But have no idea if a Stock order can be changed to a Retail or not. I guess maybe if the buyer is good with the specifications, but even those can be change as long as its not in production, vin assigned etc. Regardless, Ford not gonna build anything until the dealer has an open allocation. All an assumption on my part.

I’d get a retail order through your dealer. I got one 12-9 and have a build date of 2-26. It was the dealers 1 allocation

I'd read the rumors that some dealers were changing their stock order to retail orders and so I inquired at my dealer. They said they hadn't heard anything about that but they'd talk to their regional manager. Later that day they got back to me and said their regional manager told them to go ahead and change my order to a retail order. I then got a direct email from Ford with my order number.

So yes, stock orders can be and have been changed. The rest are pretty good assumptions and seem to be the case as far as anyone can tell.

Yes, I heard that too. My dealer called them verified orders and they would be given priority.

I've got a stock order with a priority code that will likely result in the last RR to be built before the 7G comes out in 2030. Here's my dilemma, I ordered in late May 2023 through a family friend that owns a big dealership. He was nice enough to give me MSRP with no money down. I gave his inventory manager my license info and signed the order summary. The order summary had the priority code, order code, stock #, and pricing. I received an 45 day email from Ford back in the Summer and then a second email saying they hadn't forgot about me last month. No VIN as of yet.

Would it be out of pocket and in poor taste if I asked for a retail order with a better priority code? I don't mind throwing down a deposit, although I don't think I want to pay above MSRP. I realize he has a business to run and doing business with friends can be tough. I just don't want to come off as asking for something above and beyond, I don't want him to feel like I'm taking advantage of our friendship. Any thoughts on how I should handle it?

From what I read Ford has been scheduling Retail and stock Raptors.

If you received the Email from Ford to confirm the order I would think it was submitted as a 'Retail Order' and not a 'Stock Order'. They only started actual production of the Rangers in late December.

Just ask him to put in a retail order also. You get whatever comes first.

Yeah, it was the canned "We've got your order" email with the order ID and then the "We will update you in 45 days", which was 147 days ago. Sounds like the order summary I signed may have said 'stock' but they could have entered it as 'retail'?

I have the same question. I know my order was originally a stock order (saw the original paperwork), but once I made the deal and specified my options, the dealer changed the order with those options. I then received the e-mail with the order number. Does that mean it's now a retail order?

I would call the salesman and ask, but I'm not sure he would actually know the difference.

If you got an email from Ford then it's Retail, you won't get an email if it's stock from what I understand.

None of what Ford does makes sense. I placed a stock order June 7 and I had an original build date of September 25 now it’s February 5 so in my case I guess it didn’t matter if it was stock or retail.

Most likely your dealer changed it. Because back in June there was a lot of confusion about ordering stock or retail. When’s the last time you spoke to the salesman or dealership?

I suspect it all comes down to production/manufacturing scheduling at the factory. What parts are available for orders that have been placed regardless of those being stock or retail. Which units can be built with the most efficiency and at the least cost to Ford . I don’t think they put a priority of retail over stock orders without considering these other factors.
