Now that I've broken my Raptor in and having some fun offroad, I'm really questioning the need for a 4.27 final ratio. The truck has plenty of power to easily reach top speed on the interstate, and it's not a dedicated rock crawler, so why not use a 3.73 final ratio like the normal Rangers for better MPG? What am I not thinking about?

Also, anyone notice their transmission really likes to unlock the torque converter any time you give it a little extra gas? Definitely seems like a tune might be in order just for better transmission programming, at least in Normal mode.

Probably because the difference in MPG between 3.73 and 4.27 is insignificant, especially in a performance truck. In fact, it is possible that total average MPG could be less with a 3.73 ratio due to things like tire size, drag coefficient, optimal powerband of engine, etc. The engine has to work harder to move the truck with a higher gear ratio, so it's not just all about highway mileage, especially considering that a truck like this might spend quite a bit of time off-road.

I replaced the factory 3.73 in my GT350 with a 4.56, and my total average fuel economy dropped by .5 MPG. And it is worth every penny in that car!

That's what I wasn't thinking about! Thanks.

I've noticed that too, and honestly like how it does that. My previous 22 Colorado ZR2 loved keeping the converter locked - felt like I really had to push the pedal down far for it to unlock.

But yeah the Raptor is ready to move out at all times ?
