I noticed today with my 24 Lariat I pushed the ignition button to turn off the truck but left it in drive
and it moved the shifter into park automatically

Yes - this is a known feature. You can override the auto-park by shifting to Neutral and then pressing the 'M' button on the side of the shifter. This will leave the shifter in Neutral when turning off the engine or opening the drivers door

Our Lariat goes from reverse to park if you open the door while backing up. Thank you for the info on the override feature.

I'm not trying to be the idiot in the room, here, but are you suggesting the lever itself moved of it's own accord?

The lever itself doesn't move but the electronic part of the shifter shift's to park.

Shifter moves to park on the short shifter on Rapter and Lariat I don't think the XLT with key start will do that

yeah this feature is largely for the parking assist stuff where the truck can parallel park itself. that's why you only see it on the e-shifter

Legit question, but yeah, it will physically move itself. Similar to when it parks itself. Thankfully, I read about this and then tried it. If it happened on it's own I would have to set an appointment with the dealer for an exorcism. Those can be spendy without the enhance extended warranty.
