Hello friends,
Has anyone experienced a rattle coming from the spare tire. In fact when you get under it and bump it with your hand it's exactly what I'm hearing in the cab. And if anyone has suggestions. I tried tightening cable but still there.

You have to crank hard on the handle until the clutch slips, if that doesn’t happen, it isn’t up tight enough. Or you could have a physical problem with the winch or the two frame cross members. Lower your spare and take a look. Spray the cable and spring with a rust protectant like Boeshield T9 while it is fully extended.

Hi John, I really appreciate you getting back to me on this. Your detailed suggestion is spot on. Will definitely reattempt this fix tomorrow sometime. I was afraid to put to much pressure on the winch but will give it another go. Cheers James from Mass

If you can get a helper to crank the bar, get under the truck and push up on the tire while your helper cranks the bar; that’ll take some stress off the cable and help get it snug.

it might help to drop it completely then re-lift it making sure it does t snag on anything on its way.

This might out there but is the tire upside down some only go one way and there only so much room for cable inside that crank box.
