I thought I'd post this as there still seems to be, what does the "normal" startup of the duel injected 2.3l sound like in our Rangers, along with a brief explanation of what your hearing and my norms in mine (plus 2 others) which so far, Knock on wood, has given me zero problems and I'm sneaking up on my second oil change.
Around the 1.08 minute mark you will hear the sound change when the Direct injectors go into standby mode and shut off. This should be a nice smooth transition with no perceived RPM change and my monitoring shows none. You can still hear the knocking/clanking of the high pressure fuel pump towards rear of engine from this view.
Around the 1.29 mark you will hear it start to come off the fast idle (mine shows around 1340rpm). The high pressure pump will quite down. This is still a bit higher than the normal run temperature idle by about 80-108 RPM on my monitoring.
After 20 plus minute drive running temperature sound with gauges showing conditions.
