If I have backup assistance does that mean I automatically have reverse guidance as well? (My truck has the advanced towing package plus technology package) If I understand correctly the reverse guidance is the camera view part of the package?

Question #2, if indeed I have both, does each one require a setup or if I set up a trailer in the backup assistance system will it also be automatically set up in the reverse guidance system?

Yes thanks, I already read that. What is not clear is if I automatically have both with my package, and if setting up the backup assist also sets up the reverse guidance at the same time, hence the questions.

My 25 xlt has the advanced towing and tech packages. I haven’t towed anything yet so can’t say for sure but I believe you get both. The backup assist will have to be set ip with a sticker on the tongue of your trailer. For reverse guidance, I don’t believe that there is any set ip required. Just put your truck in reverse. Then select the camera or cameras you want to view. You can also set up a split screen for multiple camera angles.

Out of curiosity, I backed ip to my 5th wheel and plugged it in. I didn’t bother setting the 5th wheel up in the backup assist system because I’ll never tow the 5th wheel with the ranger. I put my truck in reverse and pressed the trailer icon on the left of the camera view on ghe center screen. The reverse guidance icon displays. It prompted to add a trailer. I didn’t bother with that. But it does verify that you should have reverse guidance and that there is some level of set up. My guess is once the trailer is set up, you will only have to select your trailer from the menu.

I put the sticker on trailer tongue, drove to a huge empty parking lot, followed the prompts to make specific turns. I was offered a min or max rear turn radius, I chose max. Drove home and attempted a reverse 90 into my driveway using the console dial to turn steering wheel and the darn thing wouldn't jackknife the trailer enough to my a 90 so I gave up and steered it myself. I'll do the setup again in a massive empty parking lot because I didn't have enough room the first time.

FYI the manual specifically states NO 5th Wheel so this prob isnt good advice

If/when it continously cycles to identify the trailer and beeps like 5 times every minute, pull the negative terminal on the battery for a few minutes. I hooked up to my trailer that was already setup from previously trips and it did this, very annoying trip. Skynet isn't capable enough to take over the world yet I guess. Wish I knew this before it happened, would have made that trip so much better.

I haven’t triple-checked the manual to confirm, but pretty certain that “guidance” vs. “assistance” are just two modes of the same feature. As far as I’ve heard both always exist together on the 6G Ranger. Guidance means you turn the steering wheel yourself and the screen shows a visual of how the trailer is turning. Assistance means you turn the knob and the vehicle turns the steering wheel for you. I only did the setup once and it enabled both options.

Did you bother to read my post at all? I only plugged in the 7 pin connector to see if the reverse assist icon displayed. I don’t even have a 5th wheel hitch in my ranger to put the weight of the 5th wheel on it.

Whenever you do hook it up to a trailer you plan to use the guidance/assistance with I’d recommend setting aside some time. As I recall you have to do some measurements to know where to place the sticker, you have to answer a bunch of questions and enter some other trailer measurements, etc. More pleasant to do a day ahead rather than when you’re needing to actually use the trailer.
