Upcoming Trip to Moab/Sand Hollow - Looking for Trail Recommendations

Hey all, planning a cross county RV trip for Matt's Off Road Games here in March. Have multi day stop overs planned in Moab, Sand Hollow/Zion, Sedona, Phoenix and Santa Fe. Seen some treads on here with other members on here that have taken their RR in Moab, not sure about Hurricane/St George, UT and was looking for actual trail recommendations on a stock vehicle or if there are any MUST order mods before going.

Currently the truck is stock and I am trying to limit mods but also like to avoid damage. I have done dune driving in the truck last summer and off roading in Colorado, Michigan several times previously. My wife is my spotter. Have a fair amount of recovery gear from previous trips.

When you drive from Moab to St George take highway 12. Look at 70 to Hanksville, Torrey over to Bolder, Escalante, Bryce over to Zion. Torrey to Escalante is one of the best on road drives in UT. It’s worth it. You will have plenty of interstate & off rode driving by the sounds of it & your eyes will thank you for it. Also, if you are not in a hurry check out Hole in the Rock Road. It goes from Escalante to the edge of Lake Powell. It’s all dirt & looks to be just over 60 miles one way. It would be fun in a RR just cruising at higher speeds. There are some EZ slot canyons you can check out called Spooky & Peek a Boo & don’t take a lot of time. There is another canyon called Coyote Gulch that is amazing, but it is a full day hike & that’s probably not what you are going for on your trip. Also, if there is not much snow on bolder Mountains there are some cool backroads. You will be up high on the green Mountain & look over some of the Red rocks.

I’m not from that area but remember Schaefer Trail in Canyonlands was pretty cool when I visited. I just went down and back up, but I think you can ride it all the way back to town. Mostly just a dirt road, nothing crazy, but it gets the heart pumping.

Kane Springs Road to Hurrah Pass to Lockhart Basin Road to Chicken Corners.

Pretty easy road, though you can avoid/tackle some pretty tough stuff as you see fit. There's a few spots where you'll have to crawl a bit after Hurrah Pass. I didn't go all the way out to Chicken Corners, but reports indicate it's all about the same from Hurrah on west.

I'd guesstimate a total one way would be ~1.5 hours with no stopping, but you'll absolutely want to take a few pictures, and there's infinite spots to get out and hike and see the sights.

There's more than enough space for a Ranger, but If you're sensitive to shelf roads with precipitous drops, you might wanna call it quits at the top of Hurrah...

Broken Arrow in Sedona is awesome. Your stock RR should be fine on it.

Get a subscription to OnX Offraod to check out the trails. The biggest problem with a stock RR is the running board. It is wide and does not work well as a rock slider. If you have the beadlock capable rims, get a valve stem extension to make airing up easier. I've had my stock KO3 tires down to 12 psi without any problem. The problem as airing them back up because I have the beadlock capable rims. You might need a pair of needle nosed pliers to help get the valve cap loose.

I've been to Matt's Offroad Games twice and plan to go again this year. Get there early in the morning to get a good parking space, especially if you park on the sand. If you park close to the pavement, you shouldn't need to air down.
