yikes

my dealership handled it completely differently then your experience

when I was researching installation cost, the service writer brought the technician in to discussing it with me (first time I’ve ever experienced that)

going over each step with me

the ones I need to do (create the account in my name, download the software to my laptop, etc)

then the steps he’ll be doing

Out of curiosity, what other steps did they have you do? This is helpful, since I'm probably going to have mine done by a dealer who hasn't ever done it before. Im probably going to have to walk them through it (and pay them for the babysitting). Only reason I'm not doing it myself is the warranty.

1. Create an account through the ford performance registration website (it’ll accompany your pro cal)
2. Enter voucher into the redeem voucher section after registration.
3. Download Ford pro cal software (using windows OS)
4. Have your pro cal plugged into your PC/laptop to receive updates and to load the tune to the pro cal
5. Plug your pro cal into OBDII and download your stock configuration.
6. Go back to PC/laptop and upload your stock configuration (you might download the tune at this point, can’t remember off the top of my head).
7. Go back to your RR and upload tune via OBDII
8. You’re done - enjoy.

Of course, this isn’t the official rundown, but this is essentially the process from start to finish. If the technician is having trouble, the instructions straight from the FP website will walk them through it step-by-step. (It’s a super easy and quick process)

**Tip: make sure when they create the account, you use your email and then change the password after they install the tune to your RR. That way you always have your tune through your account.

It's available now. Having it installed this Thursday or Friday at the dealership where I bought the Ranger Raptor. That way it's warranteed by Ford. But it is available in all 50 states now.
I just asked the supervisor at Ford Performance and he said kommiefornia is still pending and it might be closer to the end of the year.

You forgot the most important step which is hook up a battery charger to the truck..

I just ordered the ProCal. Has anyone had any BAD experience with self-installation? My dealership knows nothing about this and I'm inclined to just do it myself. Anything to watch out for other than making sure the laptop is fully charged and data is backed up prior to install?

Also, how does Ford know whether or not it was installed by an ASE Technician?

SHOP525 code still works FYI.
They don’t know…

Tube installed today. Saw boost up at 22-23. Didn’t feel a *ton* faster but I didn’t get on it much and I know it needs to relearn. Hopefully I find some empty stretches tomorrow.

I never did it during my process. Biggest thing is just making sure you have enough charge and not having anything else on (radio, lights, bt connections, etc.) It really doesn’t take that long, so you shouldn’t have any issues during the install.

Just FYI, Ford Performance recommends "light throttling" while it's learning.

Did it myself and it took about 20 minutes.
I just ordered one from Tire Rack, same part number and a little less than $200 cheaper than Ford. Alpine Bike: I assume there will be instructions with it?

Thanks Alpine Bike from Alpine AZ.

For those who ordered this for delivery at a local dealer, how long did it take to land at the dealer? I ordered mine local pickup/install a week ago and the order tracker still indicates “In Transit to Dealer”.

I had called the dealer shortly after I placed the order to ask when/how to schedule the install. They said when the unit arrived there they would call me to schedule the install.

I am just wondering how reliable or consistent that process is.
I had mine delivered to dealer and prepaid for installation. I was able to schedule the install about 3 days later, took about 2 hrs no additional charges. I had a ford performance account set up and ready so I could register it, but they never asked for anything from me while I was waiting. I emailed ford performance twice about it, because I wanted it to be registered to my account and not the dealer. Still have not gotten a reply. I’m a little bit annoyed about it, but as far as the tune goes it’s great.

Congrats!
Your FP tune is now registered to some tech in your dealers service dept.
You are now 100% dependent on him for any future tune updates! (For the 5G Ranger I believe there was 8 or 9)
I hope paying for 2 hours of labor was worth that!

Is there a suggestion on how to avoid this while also maintaining warranty? Mine comes this week, I installed the FP software over the weekend and Im sure I can figure it out without paying someone… but warranty.

Also, what is the impact and materiality of the updates and do you get email notifications or anything when they happen?
