Anyone know if you can upgrade the standard cruise control to adaptive on a '24 XLT?

I doubt it. You'd need the radar unit, plus the cameras, the wiring, and the computer programming, and probably other things I don't know about.

Are you asking if the XLT can be ordered with that upgrade, or whether it can be added by the owner later as a retrofit?

I don't know the answer either way, but that wasn't clear when I read your question so I assume others may also wonder.

Good clarifying question. The XLT I purchased has regular cruise control and I'm interested to see if it can be upgraded to the adaptive...
Thanks for the response.

I would doubt it as mentioned above sensors would be needed along with other hardware and programing. If you could it would probably cost you a fortune especially if the dealer needed to get involved with the upgrade.

Have you driven a vehicle that has it? Asking because my wife's Escape has it, and I've grown to hate it and never use it. There are two reasons for this: first, it wants to drive closer to the center line than I prefer; second, and most annoying, is that if I let it drive, every couple of minutes I get a hands on the wheel warning. They are on the wheel dammit! To keep it from disengaging cruise, I have to turn the wheel a bit whether it needs it or not. Instead of watching the road, I have to watch the darn dash for the warning, tweek the steering wheel a bit, go a mile or so and do it again. If they want my hands on the wheel, put a sensor on the steering wheel instead of making me turn the wheel. I certainly wouldn't pay extra for this much aggravation. YMMV of course.

Isn't that the lane assist that also engages when you engage cruise control causing the issues you are complaining about? If so just turn off lane assist. I don't like lane assist either. But I do like adaptive cruise control.

I don't think so. The lane assist just vibrates the wheel if you get close to either the center line or shoulder line. Adaptive cruise steers for you but has the issues I mentioned. I've watched several Youtube videos where they complained about the same things I did. Obviously, some people like it and some don't. Glad you like yours. Maybe it has been improved. The Escape is a '22.

You can easily turn off the lane assist. I'd prefer that lane assist not come on when you engage cruise control, but that doesn't strike me as a reason to not want adaptive cc. To each hos own.

I actually don't have adaptive cruise on my Ranger XLT but have it on two other vehicles. And the same thing happens when I engage the cruise. Lane assist kicks in along with the cruise control and It wants to control the steering wheel and yells at me until I have both hands on the wheel and will vibrate when I start to cross the line (if I have the vibrate option turned on in settings) all this happens when engaging the cruise, until I hit the button to turn off lane keep assist. Then the cruise control continues in it's normal operation without lane assist fighting you.

Hello, I came across your post while doing a google search for adaptive cruise control. I don't own a Ranger, but I have a 2021 Ford Edge. I have successfully installed adaptive cruise control with lane centering. This involved installing a radar cruise control module behind the front bumper. So, yes it is possible to do. You will need technical skills to do it. Seeing that your occupation is "O.R. Systems Specialist" you probably can do it.

I doubt it. You'd need the radar unit, plus the cameras, the wiring, and the computer programming, and probably other things I don't know about.
A radar / cruise control module is required. The main wiring needed is between the IPMA camera and CCM. Most of the wiring should already be in place. A new ABS module may be required also. I don't know if the 2024 Ranger has an electronic brake booster.

the dealer needed to get involved with the upgrade
The dealerships won't get involved with upgrades like this.

Hey Wubster100 -
That's great information. Thanks very much.
Ballpark cost for you to do it yourself and how long did it take you?
And how well does it perform?
Thanks again.

Here are some approximate costs for 2019-2024 Edge. All prices are in USD. I purchased all of my parts used to save on cost. The prices for a 2024 Ranger will be higher because the vehicle is so new.

CCM / Radar - $120
CCM mount - $50
Wiring pigtail - $20
Steering wheel switch (optional) - $50
ABS Module (optional) - $50
Miscellaneous - $100

In total, I only spent about $200 in parts. It took me about one full day of working to remove the front bumper and install the CCM, then reinstall the front bumper. The parts are only for the Edge, and I don't think a new ABS module would even be needed for the Ranger. We would need to do more research and examine the 2024 Ranger Workshop Manual to confirm that it is possible to install ACC. I do not know of anyone who has installed ACC to the 2024 Ranger.

Some prices I found new for the 2024 ranger:

Distance Sensor - Ford (N1WZ-9E731-E) $536
Distance Sensor Bracket - Ford (N1WZ-14C022-G) $102

Here is a post from the previous generation ranger where ACC was added:
https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/threads/adding-adaptive-cruise-control.9057/page-5

Here is another post about adding ACC for 6g Ranger:
https://www.ranger6g.com/forum/threads/adding-adaptive-cruise-control-acc.10734/

And how well does it perform?
It will perform the exact same as if it came from the factory.

[/QUOTE]

When I mentioned the dealership may have to get involved I wasn't sure if a dealership would need to code it or program it once the system was installed. I didn't mean the dealership getting involved with the installation. I should have clearified that more.
