Dropped off 2024 ranger raptor 3.0L gasoline for 1st oil change.

Couldn't get oil and filter delivered in time so I chose the "easy/convenience".

I just arrived at dealership and they are showing me the costs and I see the oil they used was Castrol 0W-30 to my surprise.

They showed me a document that shows USA models get 5W-30 and Europe models get 0W-30

Anyone have any experience with this???

It will be fine either way. Weight generally matters more with climate.

Owners manual shows 0w-30 can be used as well, though it notes "extremely cold climates", ie not Spain. Also, it's 7qts for 3.0L. Others have reported dealer putting in 6Q, which is what 2.3L/2.7L is specc'd.

Oil has two weights, the cold weight (first number, e.g. 5) and the hot weight (second number, e.g. 30). What this means is that, when the engine is cold, the oil has the viscosity of a 5 weight oil. When it gets up to temp, it has the viscosity that a 30 weight oil would at operating temperature.

Oil thins as it heats up. 5 weight flows well and protects your engine when it is cold. However that same oil at operating temperature wouldn't protect your engine very well. But, cold oil is very thick and it's hard to get it to flow. So, oil manufacturers put an additive in oil that makes its relative viscosity increase as the temperature increase. This enables us to have an oil that acts like a 5 weight oil when cold and a 30 weight oil when hot.

Now, because oil thins when it gets hotter, a 0 weight oil (and a 5 weight) is significantly thicker at room temperature than a 30 weight oil is at operating temperature.

Both 0W-30 and 5W-30 oil are going to act like 30 weight oil when hot. If you were to put straight 30 weight oil in your truck, it would have the same viscosity at operating temperature that 0W-30 and 5W-30 do. When cold, the 0W-30 is going to flow a little better than 5W-30. You will do no harm to your engine by running the 0W-30.

Thank you for the replies.

It's not that cold where I am so at the next service I'll change my own oil now that I can order the oil ahead of time without any issue.

These are my options for matching the WSS-M2C961-A1 spec (according to the digital user manual in the truck) here in Europe.

https://ato24.de/en/motorcraft-5w-30-synthetic-blend.html

https://www.ravenol.de/en/properties/empfehlung/ford-wss-m2c961-a1

The motorcraft is imported and about $220 for 5 gallons / 20 quarts

The ravenol is German and I guess it meets the spec but as an "approval".. Also more expensive
