Anyone know why this space is being used? Is it lights when the truck is throwing a code or something 4x4 related is being used?

Looks like a good spot for upfitter switches.

I found nothing there… but you can add some buttons above and a speaker inside

On the Lariat and Raptor that's where the center speaker is and also has some warning lights.
