Yes, absolutely that is a real cost that needs factored into the equation.I'm assuming you also factor in all of your travel costs in the OTD right? Or do you get the vehicle delivered and factor that into the OTD?
I don't generally spend a ton of time looking at the travel cost on say a truck within a couple hundred miles of me. Something that I can easily just drive a few hours and pickup. That is pretty minimal.
If I am shipping it halfway across the country, then that starts to add up quickly.
It typically cost me around $1500-$2k to ship in a vehicle from either coast to Kansas.
I have done deals where I arrange transport on a carrier myself or I fly an employee out and drive the truck back, at times if I felt the dealer was on top of the best shipping options in his area and was giving me a decent shipping cost or they were including it.
Seems every deal is little different.
Luckily, I have not had to range out more than a couple hundred miles on new trucks in the past few months, but back in Covid times of say 2021-2023 I had hunted down box vans nationwide and flew guys into VA, NC, FL, availability was about all that matter in those days.
I am hopeful that at some point I can return to simply placing fleet orders getting the best prices and getting the product in reasonable amount of time.
With Ranger retail is better than Fleet prices in terms of rebates that are going on right now.
I would be paying as much or more to order 2026 XLTs in my preferred spec, then I am paying for the Lariats that I have been tracking down and buying.
