I made one of these for my Superduty and kept it after I sold it, decided to shorten it and freshen it up for the Ranger. 2" angle (1/8") and 9 gauge 3/4" expanded metal. (No I did not grind off the center support and re-center it, but I did relocate the two hangers that bolt up to the bed rail edge.).
Bed rail hangers are 2" channel with 3/8" nuts welded to them, they fit up behind the bed rail flange then get bolted thru from the inside.
The 9 gauge 3/4" expanded metal is perfect for bungee cord hooks. The rear leg also gives me something solid to hold onto when pulling myself into the bed.
Comes in handy when loading a lot of stuff, really adds to the available space, plus you can access the stuff thru the side windoor without unstacking other stuff. I may do one for the other side. Wish someone would make aluminum ones. Leaving for a fishing trip tomorrow and I'm loaded to the "gills". I would post a pic but at this point you can barely see the shelf.
