After about 10k miles with my 2024 Ranger XL STX 4x4 on stock suspension, it was time for in upgrade. Was thrilled that Bilstein came out with the 5100’s for the 6th gen Ranger (finally). Picked up a set of front and rears at AllianceRacing.com - they had the best price and shipping was pretty quick. After install and alignment at a local shop here in SoCal, I headed straight for the mountains. Since they are adjustable, we installed them at the 4th notch which is about 1.5in lift in the front. It seemed to level it out almost perfectly.

On rough pavement they are stiff, no doubt about it. You feel every little bump. But the body roll and bounciness is much more controlled. Highway driving is secure and stable. Where they really shine is off-road - control, comfort, and confidence. Did about 10 miles around Mount Pinos in the Los Padres forest as a test run. Lots of folks out hunting, really great time of year to explore this area.

Your truck looks good with that stance. Are you going to upsize your tires, or stay with the original size?

These are actually take off wheels / tires from a Bronco Black Diamond- so 265/70r17 General Grabber ATX on steelies. I’ve thought about going bigger on the tires…but for what I need, I think the size is just right. Some light off-roading / camping, and snow in the winter.

It's bumpier on pavement with the 5100s?
Because the shocks are stiffer than stock, if you hit a pothole at normal speed for example, it’s a bit more jarring. However, there’s much less bounce / float as a result, so it’s more composed / stable over a rough road…if that makes sense ?

Mind if I ask how much your shop charged for install and alignment?

Thanks for the honest and succinct review. I learned all I needed at “they are stiff.” I know lots of people live for stiff.

Yeah I think it’s all relative, based on what you’re comparing it to and/or what you need out of suspension. Tighter handling, and more planted for towing and off-road in this case.

Exactly. Personally I’m going for a mix of Stadium Super Truck and soft compliant rock crawler.

I had the 5100s on my Nissan titan and had the same experience. It improved the truck handling but "felt" stiffer for normal empty load driving. I liked them though and its nice they are available for the ranger.

Maybe when its time for shocks, I will get them too.

I am waiting for my new sperpro front sway bar to be delivered. I want to level the truck in turns and, ha ha ha, the once a year I tow, help with that.

Yeah takes some getting used, but once I hit the dirt I was impressed.
