any images of how this looks? thinking of trying the same thing for my traction boards.
I thought I had a picture but don't, and I won't be able to take a decent one until after my trip. I'll try to remember to take and upload one in two weeks.can you send a picture of how you hang the recovery strap and traction boards? Interested in doing something similar!
Reese and Curt are a couple other good names for drop hitches, and a good hitch based shackle, etc...Just realized you're also in Oklahoma.
How long is your trailer? I finally took the jet ski to the lake yesterday and the hitch I used on my Tacoma was too tall for the Raptor. I used a 2" drop and it's still a little too high but will do for the 4 mile roundtrip hike. Can't tell if you're at 2" or 3" drop on that and how your trailer sits!
Actually here ya go for a pic... Sorry I don't have link at the moment...Reese and Curt are a couple other good names for drop hitches, and a good hitch based shackle, etc...
You deff want your trailer to be horizontally level. I just tried going through my Amazon history, and it's a pain now. I'll go out to my jeep tomorrow and take a pic of the one I've used fur a decade... Grand Cherokee up 6"+ on 35s... And gives me plenty of adjustability for every trailer I've had....
looks good. do you have a link to the part? thx!Installed hood deflector today.![]()

I used to be a member of Savage Garden (I want you) - chica cherry colaSo I have to ask, are you really just that in to cherry coke (great soda) or is there a story behind this?
I put the 5100s on my '22 Ranger and they totally changed the truck. Night and day difference. Great upgrade to do.I spent last night experimenting with some suspension! I took some measurements (front strut extended length is about 22.5-23 in) and pretty much visually guessed that the 6G Ranger suspension was updated to be very similar if not the same as the current (base) Bronco suspension.
So I took a leap and bought some Bilstein 5100 front struts for a 4-door Bronco since curb weights (~4200-4500lbs) are about the same and I wouldn’t have to worry too much about the valving being too different. For the rears, I didn’t want to lift it so I went with some Bilstein 5100 shock absorbers from the previous gen Ranger since the extended lengths are again the same (~24”, Bilstein’s were a bit longer at closer to 25”).
For the front struts I left the circlip at the lowest position, installed the supplied Bilstein collar adapter, installed the spring perch; coil spring; bump stop + plastic boot; and top hat from the Ranger suspension and threw it all back under the truck! Everything worked well except for trying to get the sway bar back in place. The sway bar on the Ranger has end links that mount above the bar on the knuckle so I may need to find some adjustable shorter end links as the sway bar just barely fouls on the lower control arm at full droop. Definitely remove the axle nuts and pop the cv axles loose from the knuckle if you attempt this as you won’t have enough movement in the lower control arm without it. Otherwise everything fit up perfect!
For the lift numbers, I measured the front wheel well arch to be about 35-1/4” to the ground before the install. It may settle some more as I’ve only just installed, but the front wheel arch is now measuring 38-1/8”, so a bit less than a full 3” in lift. For reference, the rear wheel arch measures around 38-1/2” so just about level! Tire to wheel arch measurement were the same story with 8-1/4” in front and 8-1/2” in back.
The Bilstein 5100 setup is way better than stock FX4 setup. No more wallowing through bigger bumps, the suspension recovers much more quickly. It’s a bit more solid feeling in the small bumps so I do feel the road and little bumps a bit more, but all in all, a really good upgrade in my opinion.
Here’s a few pictures I was able to take, wish I could’ve gotten more but I had to drive the truck to work today and didn’t have time to document and get everything done, sorry!! I will be posting more pictures when I get my new wheels (Method 703 bronze) and bigger tires installed in a few weeks so don’t mind the wheel spacers, they aren’t permanent!
