Well jumped in my RR the other day and it was completey crazy. The truck ran fine, come to a stop sign it went to 4x4 rock climbing. Then went to puddle shifting. Then went to go fast. All on its own. I had to stop and put into 2WD and reselect everything. This crazyness has happened a couple times. I've gotten on the freeway gassed it and all of a sudden its in paddle shift. Anybody else had such crazyness with the software. It seems to be too complicated for its own good.

I've got a thread on the vehicle shifting drive modes by itself, if you want to communicate your experience with others, in the hopes that the stack of people with those symptoms can get some kind of resolution.

Yours is not the only vehicle with this problem, and nobody knows how to fix it, yet. The cause itself will remain unknown unless Ford gets on it. Dealerships are neither trained nor equipped to diagnose such an issue; especially as intermittent as it is.

My dealer has about 200 miles on my Raptor without encountering the issue.

I say that every time I get in my '24 RR it's a surprise because I never know what is going to happen electronically or be displayed on my large screen.

Unfortunately Ford will not allow a reload of the software unless there is an update. My original electronic issues were were to the point of driving me crazy. Took it to my local dealer and they had just received a new '24 RR and he downloaded the software to their dealership computer and then downloaded it to my Ranger. 95% of the previous issues were gone. There is still the once-in-awhile strange thing happens to my large screen tho, I'll have the radio on when the truck is shut down and upon restart who knows what I will get; radio, navigation to some unknown place, bluetooth, whatever. Same for the selectable gauge display. But, that happening is not often. Only once have I had to disconnect the battery for a period to correct the display.

The tech at the selling dealer, a man working on Fords for at least 25 years and someone I trust, told me there is so much micro-data going in the system that anything can cause a hick up. A Ford factory tech who happened to be standing alongside at the time agreed. Of course, that doesn't solve the problem, only somewhat of an explanation. I have no idea what causes this to happen, but my gut tells me there might be some sketchy minor ground or connection somewhere in the system - something impossible for normal people to find.

I also had some drive mode issues so i took it to the dealer. After some diagnosis they said it was the drive mode switch. After ordering the wrong part the first time they changed it and now no more issues.

I have similar issue with the drive selector wheel. It will keep scrolling thru the modes even after you quit turning it. Dealer has ordered a new selector wheel but its on national backorder. Hope that fixes it. Seems to be a ton of bugs with this system on these trucks.....

If that mode mode selection switch assembly has it's own microcontroller, it could be a cause.

That would have to be a programming defect, as the buttons on the assembly also function on their own; not just the rotating function of the switch. It is unlikely to be several physical defects at one time.

Computer-oriented as that might be, it should still be a nearly impossible diagnosis without Ford's help. The issues are very intermittent and, it thinks it's working properly, so codes aren't being thrown.

My buttons on the wheel work fine, If you you rotate the wheel and quickly let go and let it slam back, it will usually work correctly and stop scrolling. This makes me think its a physical connection issue as I dont have any of the other gremlins with self changing modes etc...

Took mine to the dealer today for this phantom shifting. Will report outcome in the days to come.
