Yeah you would need to make some sort of custom quick release mechanism to hold the light to reduce the size. Similar to this https://www.led-colight.com/products/quick-release-universal-hood-ditch-light-mounting-brackets

How big is the hole on the tie down pieces, hard to get a scale of how big a rope or whatever will fit through that?
A quick-release system is cool, but outside of the scope of this product. It may be possible to attach that directly to the spacer stack, though and not need the light bracket.

Dimensions attached.

I think you would have to turn the bracket around to use with a cover.

@AdventureLab

my comment in general is that design consideration should be made for accommodating covers for items that attach to the rails.

and while I think the brap de-sign is quite clever

Where I would use a bed rail attachment point is probably going to being pulling some thing down and by moving the attachment point clip on point away from the center of the rail you have increased the moment that will be created on the rail and the bracket.
Not sure what you mean by "covers for items that attach to the rails". Can you elaborate? Thanks!

tonneau covers.

so if you design something nice that goes into those ford rail attachment points,

consider that someone with a tonneau cover might want to use them

So for example my Lomax cover, like a lot of covers, covers part of the rail but not those rail attachment points.

I could possibly put in a spacer to on the bed rails to raise the towers,,,,

but from the initial design, if that was taken into consideration, it would be a superior looking product

and by angling in the brackets and limiting the height, you rule out one of the popular rollup covers

In my case with a foldup cover that would not be practical but I could imagine just using the two front rail attachment points and just folding up the rear third

or simply on rail up front for sand flags, antennas etc.

i could also see something like what Yakima has where the towers latch with a lever and you pop off the bars relatively quickly.

just my thoughts obviously take them for what they are worth.

I get if you are out in the wilds of utah maybe you don’t need a cover

but if it is wet or you stop someplace not so safe, a cover is nice.

thanks for listening

I’d love to see these as an attachment point for a T-Slot Rail running along each side of the bed. I have the backflip cover without rails and wasn’t very interested in paying another $1300 for the backflip with T-Slot Rails for the Ranger.

Ah, gotcha. Yeah, this wasn't intended to be compatible with tonneau covers. I think if I changed it enough to be compatible, it would change its usefulness for the current mission. However, I'm down to making a different version that is compatible with tonneau covers if there is enough demand.

That's not a bad idea! Would you rather have T-slot of L-track? We find that most people prefer L-track when given the option. L-track is a lot lower profile. We have some really nice end caps for the L-track as well.

I have a need for T-Slot but having both options certainly makes it appealing to a larger audience.

Could the mounting D ring be made to fit under the bed rail cap (is the cap needs to be trimmed, so be it), with the spacer block above to sit flush with the bed rail?

Can they be turned used externally like the ones on the old Explorer sport trac? I love the idea, but want to know how flexible the mounting options are. I can see using something like this in a lot of ways.

If you didn't mind trimming the rails, they could definitely work that way.

As for mounting them outboard, if you turned them upward, they would work, but if you want them turned down, only the rear one is going to work due to the shape of the bed rails.

Are you talking about adding a T-slot or using the BRAPs with an existing T-slot?
Adding T-Slots rails to the existing BRAPS. They would sit on top of either the bed rails or on top of the BRAPS. Secured using the six bolt hardware for the BRAPS. I hope this makes sense.
Thanks.
