How do people typically mount rooftop tents to crossbars this thick? Most of the tents I'm looking at use a clamping style brace over much thinner diameter round or oval bars. If necessary. Could you create adapter brackets? I am looking at getting this tent.

Instead of clamping to the rails, you would just want to directly bolt the tent to the rails. From Topoak's install video:

Basically get rid of the bracket/clamp and one of the bolts at each mounting locations. The remaining bolt would hang down and feed through the slots in the AAL rack. Then use a washer and nut on the bottom of the AAL rack.

Thanks! I'll need to write the tent company to see what their mounting point spacing is. I'd like to avoid drilling holes in the powder coated rails.

We make it much easier than that. You wouldn't use those clamps at all. The track on the bottom of the tent will attach directly to the RAILs. You may want to put some abrasion resistant material between them (may be provided with the tent). The track on the tent will hopefully line up with the slots in the top of the rails. We can't know all of the tent patterns, so I tried to make the slot pattern as universal as possible. Just put your normal t-slot bolts into the track and attach it to the RAILs.

By removing those clamps, you eliminate another failure point and restrict movement of the tent, providing a much more solid mounting system.

Oh cool. It looks like there's a lot of "wiggle room" with those slots on the rails, but in a good way. Should be easy to fit on there as long as the rails on the tent are going the direction I think they are.

If I order two rails and select 2 qty for the molle panels, will they be full length to span between the bars at the farthest positions or are they just designed to be used with the crossbars being right next to each other?

I have not done the full length braces yet, but that will be the next component for this system.
