What do you want, a capable truck or a SUV? If you want fast, get a Mustang GT. I would expect the Raptor will hold its value better. Given the Raptor weighs more, the ST is likely faster.

Ranger is body on frame, I would think if off-road mods are what your looking for , then the Ranger would be easier to mod then the unibody Explorer. Another reason I wish we had the Everest here in the US.

I got tired of waiting for Ford to bring the Everest here, so I bought a second Ranger Raptor and built into something as close to an SUV as I could get It.

I have a '25 ST, and it's definitely faster than my RR. It has the same powertrain, but weighs a lot less. RR is more fun to drive IMO...it just has a certain character to it that the ST doesn't. Hard to describe. The ST is competent, but kind of flavorless, I guess.

Mods are similar and basically a wash AFAIK until you get into crazy drag strip stuff (beefing up the 10R60, etc).

RR will hold value better.

Kind of ironic given I own an ST, but as a parting shot I'd be really iffy about trusting anything that comes out of Ford's Chicago plant. Lotta complaints about fit & finish and overall QC over at the Explorer ST forums.

the other ST variants don't hold their value well so i expect the explorer won't either.

the other raptors do hold theirs though

Explorer ST does not hold resale value any better than a regular explorer, sadly. Gets lumped in as a massed produced family hauler.

Only got 300 miles on my RR, however it's a blast to drive (Even in the corners). It handles very well for what it is and is quick. Plus, it can handle New Jersey roads without a problem. I have only driven an Explorer ST & I wouldn't try to compare the two as they are different animals. Like others have said, anything with Raptor on it seams to hold it's value.

St is lighter and faster, but the procal tune for the RRaptor evens that up some. Procal tune is what the RRaptor shouldve been from the start, better shift patterns, smoother shifts, better torque and start up, etc.

You dont buy an Explorer for resale value. They do not hold their value any better than any other mass produced family hauler, unfortunately.

If youre looking for a fun vehicle with the most possible mods, and flexibility in use the RRaptor is the way to go.

If youre going for a fun to drive and fast family hauler there are options out there, along with an Explorer ST, to consider.

What other options would you say are better at a $60k price point in the 3 row unibody class?

Was 70k built out with the options that I'd want on a 2026. At that point, I'd have to consider a gx550, x5, defender, etc. But that's the nice thing about choices, we all like different things. At that price point and up, I would prefer nicer fit finish and materials used in the interior, most especially.

If a st could be bought under 60k, its probably at the head of its class with its performance, but its interior becomes lackluster if you start pushing the mid 60s and up compared to other options out there.

I would rather have a GX550 as well, but it's not really apples to apples.

My '25 ST was $58K OTD with the only major package available (sun & sound).

To get to $70k you have to select just about every single box available in the configurator including a black painted roof for almost $5K. Not really a good faith comparison at that point. It starts at $54K and is well optioned at $60K.

But yes, to each their own.
