Pirelli XTM AT 285/70r17 E tires on Ranger Raptor

I've heard the 305 width is the sweet spot, size wise. I am off road seldom, but I was in the dirt a few weeks ago, and my RR was so happy out there. ReaLITY FOR ME IS I my RR will spend most its time on pavement. Will probably run these Ko3s out, maybe look at some same / similar sized Michelin LTXs or......?

Take a look at the Vredestein Penza AT and Continental TerrainContact A/T. Both have a more aggressive look than the Michelin and far outperform the KO3 on the road. The Penza AT S/L's weigh 46 pounds...10 pounds less than the KO3's! Thats 40 pounds less rotational weight! BTW the Tire Rack tread width is incorrect. They are 9.3", 1/2" wider than the OEM's. Nothing against the Michelins...I had them on my last truck, a 2005 Tundra. But I think they would look out of place on a raptor, and don't think you would be giving up much if anything on the pavement.

Those are good as well. There are honestly a lot of good tire options out there, it's really finding something that suits the particular needs of the driver and how they are using their Raptor.

If your on-road 99% of the time, an on-road focused AT tire like the Continental or Vredstein might truly be the better solution. Heck you could even go with 20" wheels and a lower profile tire then like a road truck and have that "tough luxury work truck" look.

For me, I bought my Raptor specifically for its off-road capabilities, I drive on rough back roads a lot, fly over railroad crossings that I have to crawl over at a snail's pace in my little Mazda 3 to avoid damaging the tires / wheels they are so rough, the Raptor just eats it up all up.

Going to dunes at Silver Lake this August. Taken on many trails and gravel roads etc. So off-road focused AT tires fit my uses best because the terrain I drive on varies widely, from long highway trips out of state to random trails to dune blasting to drifting around in my uncle's corn fields, so the XTM's for me are a very welcomed enhancement to both off-road and on-road performance.

Prior to the XTM's, the KO3's were probably about as balanced as you could get between off-road and on-road (doing reasonably well at both), but the XTM's really set the bar for on-road handling improvements while still gaining a little bit off-road and not giving up the things I like about the KO3's like forward bite in dirt / lose terrain, their aggressive looks and reasonable weight.

More truck pics please! How about some shots of the whole truck from a bit more distance at an angle, to really get a good visual of how they look in the fender wells.

Sure thing! BTW, according to Continental they will eventually offer an S/L 285/70R17 Terrain Contact A/T or AT2. The difference between their 265/70R17 LT and S/L is 13 pounds! (55 vs 42) If the 285 S/L lost the same 13 pounds from the LT it should be 46 pounds and a more comfortable ride! Hmmm...

OP, how well do the Pirellis balance compared to the KO3s?

I still have this nagging slight shimmy at 60-65 mph despite multiple balancing attempts, don’t know if it’s my KO3s or my aftermarket wheels.

They feel very solid. I’m not sure how much weight was used to balance them but they don’t vibrate at all and drive extremely straight. Very very happy with them in comparison to the stock tires

Nice, also crazy how an E rated tire can only weigh 53 lbs??!!! Is the ride super harsh compared to the KO3s?

Check out the Firestone Destination A/T 2. It's listed as an off-road A/T tire but did really well against the Penza and TerrainContact head-to-head on the road for comfort, noise, wet and dry in Tire Rack's test. It also was much better off-road with the more agressive tread. The LT285/70R17 weighs only 41 pounds! I think the KO3's that came on our Raptors is 56, so that's 60 less pounds! Also, it has a low rolling resistance compared to other A/T tires. Should be better milage and quicker. Thoughts??
