  1. Tailgate Handle with Light and without light

It’s part of the advanced tow package. Pretty sure it’s there to illuminate the sticker you place on the trailer A frame to support the pro backup assist feature.
  2. Lifting windshield whipper's scraping paint off the hood

Just because I haven't seen it mentioned... if anyone actually does want to view the manual somewhere other than the in-car display or ordering a paper copy, I've had good success looking at it on Ford's website. I just google "2024 Ranger manual". Can even search there.
  3. Lifting windshield whipper's scraping paint off the hood

The wipers cannot be lifted up in the default position. The operator’s manual says you need to activate the wipers then turn off the ignition while they are straight up, before lifting them off the glass.
  4. Max towing advice

I’ve never seen anyone who could give a rational explanation for Ford’s stated maximum frontal surface area specs. If you conservatively say that this Jayco with AC is 70-80 sq-ft then that would barely be within spec for an F-600 SuperDuty pulling a 5th wheel. Clearly people with F-150’s pull...
  5. Max towing advice

Care to share why you understand they are not recommended? That may be the first time I’ve ever heard anything bad said about WDH (other than the increased setup time).
  6. Infrequent hot/burning plastic smell

I’ll have to keep this in mind. Living in the Midwest there aren’t too many opportunities to really heat up the brakes so it’s been a while since I can definitely say I smelled that. We’d also mostly been going uphill which is why I hadn’t initially suspected that.
  7. Infrequent hot/burning plastic smell

Was probably around 3k miles the first time we noticed it, although prior to that most of the miles would have been about as flat as you can get. So this would have been one of the first times the truck ever worked that hard.
  8. Infrequent hot/burning plastic smell

On a recent long road trip pulling a travel trailer there were a couple of occasions where we noticed a strong hot/burning plastic (not rubber) smell. In both cases we first noticed the smell when transitioning from highway speeds to low speeds after a period of moderate engine load (going up a...
  9. Found small funnel behind back seat!!

It’s in the operator’s manual. As I understand it, it’s necessary because of the cap-less fuel filler neck. Most fuel can spouts wouldn’t be able to fit in the hole and hold that little flap open. The funnel sticks in there to hold the throat open so you can pour from the can.
  10. 2024 ford ranger 2.7 liter twin turbo sport edition. Max towing

Tongue weight alone is 100lb over the max allowed tongue weight. Will only keep getting worse once you add the weight of the hitch itself and anything inside the trailer beyond its dry weight.
  11. Questions about driving in the snow?

Owner’s manual says shut off the ignition while the wipers are in the vertical position while wiping. Don’t try and force them up.
  12. WTH is this in the overhead interior

I don’t know anything about this piece specifically but having multiple microphones is pretty common place in consumer electronics these days (for beam-forming, to help filter out background noise), so just because there’s another mic above the driver’s seat doesn’t rule out these also being...
  13. 2022 Ranger XLT 300a switched to a 2024 Ranger XLT 301a, first impressions (5g to 6g)

I was also surprised to find there was no simple way to clear out the default radio presets. Hard to imagine that was an oversight, so it seems more likely that Sirius XM paid for it to be that way to increase usage/discoverability. I had a hunch my old tonneau cover wouldn't fit so I ordered...
  14. 7-way charge line compatible with DC-DC converter?

I do have a “converter” that charges the batteries when plugged into shore power. I’m interested getting some limited charging while driving and connected to the trailer plug. I’m hoping to understand what interlocks the truck has before it supplies power to the battery charge pin of the 7-way...
  15. 7-way charge line compatible with DC-DC converter?

I’m not interested at this time in running a separate high gauge wire for charging and know this will limit max amperage. I was hoping to put a DC-DC charger in my trailer, inline with the charge wire from the 7-way plug, to boost the voltage for charging LiFePO4 batteries. I saw a couple posts...
  16. 7-pin connector for trailer DC-DC charging

Curious if you ever learned more about this, I’m interested in the same.
  17. What did you DO TO your 6G Ranger today? 🧰 🛠️ ⚙️ 🧽

I just did about a dozen of them installing the rear mud flaps. The key is basically no downward pressure when you are unscrewing or they pop back in. Once they’re proud of the rivet I could usually turn them the rest of the way with my finger tips. One just wouldn’t back out no matter what, I...
  18. New Ranger break-in period?

Owner’s manual isn’t too specific but basically says go easy for 1,000 mi and try to cover a wide variety of speeds.
  19. What did you DO TO your 6G Ranger today? 🧰 🛠️ ⚙️ 🧽

Did you remove the Phillips head center part before removing the original rivets?
  20. Snow Mobile: FX4 XLT on stock tires is a beast

This is what I’ll do because it’s what they call for in the manual. Seen enough warnings about other motor driven things to assume it’s not OK to just yank on em. All my euro cars you tapped the wiper stalk once within 5 seconds after key-off and they move straight up and stay. I assume if Ford...
