New Ranger break-in period?

Picking up my new Ranger tomorrow wanted so info on break in period. I’ve always had SUV’s, this is my first truck, so any advice will help. Is the break in period for a truck similiar to something like my BMW X3, just drive it easy first 1000 miles. As soon as I pick it up I got a 2 hour highway drive ahead of me. AGAIN total rookie to trucks.

Owner’s manual isn’t too specific but basically says go easy for 1,000 mi and try to cover a wide variety of speeds.

They recommended not going on highways for long periods cause the gears need to switch and breaks need to settle in, etc. I kept it under 3.5rpm for 1100 miles in the city with minimal highway. Do it once. Treat it right. Do it right. It'll be a nicer longer owner experience with less headaches to be patient in the beginning amongst the excitement

Why not take the long way home and not the interstate? I mean you just spent 40k or more on a vehicle. Don't tow for the first 1000 miles. This one was hard for me. When you plug in a trailer the trucks knows. If you have troubles down the road the truck is tracking your towing miles. Keep rpms under 3k I believe. Regulate your speed or rpms. Don't jam on the brakes if you can help it. Also turn off the auto start stop feature during break in period or until the engine is fully warmed up each time.

Treated my RR kindly for the first 1k miles, like all suggest here in this great forum, then slapped the PROCAL tune on at 1025 miles and haven’t looked back! Truck has about 2700 smile miles now. Enjoy, it’s an amazing piece of kit for the $$.

After about 600 miles, I had to make a pretty hard stop from 80mph to about 20 and really got on the brakes. After I did that, they have worked much better. I know from using some performance brake pads and rotors on other vehicles, it does take some heat to break them in. And from what I observed above, the Ranger is the same way. I wouldn't suggest a hard stop until you have some miles on it, unless you really have to.

Ranger XLT with 2.7 Ecoboost. I have almost 1000 miles on it. Changed the oil at 850 miles. I've been going easy on it. But I need to haul about 1000 lbs of wood about 500 miles...no towing, just in the bed. That is a quarter cord...my estimate is that it weighs 1000 pounds at the most, probably closer to 700 pounds. Is there any reason I should wait to do this until I have a few more miles on the clock? Or is it good to go now that I have almost 1000 miles of break in?

I am a bit nervous about this topic as I have flirted a bit with a couple jumps to feel the speed and also hooked up my trailer and maybe pulled it 4 miles to try it out and program the trailer for the advanced tow package. I probably only have about 300-400 miles so I will baby it and do the oil change at 1000 miles. I wish I would have looked into this as I asked the dealer and they said, "just drive it". I shouldn't have trusted that advice.

If you did it "a little bit" it's perfectly fine.

It's better to put pressure on the engine (piston rings !) than being too gentle. If you wait until the engine is warm / oil is warm (oil temp in the gauge cluster if you set it up in MyView), then it's all good.

Don't rip it, don't go to red line, but it's good to accelerate 50-60% throttle sometimes to put pressure.

In the very first kms (where majority of breakin happens), I tend to accelerate and decelerate constantly, and don't coast at the same speed. Let it go thru the gears with more and more pressure as the engine is up in temp. And on the high way I like to put in 3rd or 4th gear go slowly and do a 75-80% pull 2k before redline.

Never had issue with oil consumption, never (had VW, Audis, BMWs)

Thank you for your opinion, I have been taking it easy and plan on doing the oil change early at 500-750 miles. Going to go Synthetic, I think Mobil 1, with Motor craft or KN filter.

Less than 7,000 rpm for the first 1,800 miles. Oh, your asking about a Ranger...
