My Ford dealer never talked about the 'run-in' period when we bought our '24 Ranger. However, when we bought our Subaru Outback a couple years ago the dealer recommended to NOT use cruise control for the first 1000 miles, and don't stomp on the accelerator (unless in an emergency). Something about the vehicle's computer needs to learn the car, so it can make internal adjustments as accurate as it can.
Vary your engine rpms, not to sustain above 4K rpm’s until 1000 miles. This helps the rings to seat properly. What you’re attempting to do is heat cycle the internals by varying engine rpm’s.
If you happen to exceed 4K rpm’s for a short burst of 30 seconds it’s alright. Just don’t attempt to sustain it for more than 30 second.
Once you exceeded 1K mikes, let her rip. There are some, who like to give the engine till 1500 miles with the occasional WOT bursts for 30 seconds but this is an individual choice.
You need to break in new tires for approximately 300 mi (480 km). During this time, your vehicle may exhibit some unusual driving characteristics.
Avoid driving too fast during the first 1,000 mi (1,600 km). Vary your speed frequently and change up through the gears early. Do not labor the engine.
Do not tow during the first 1,000 mi (1,600 km).
