I bought a 2025 Ranger XLT with the new 2.3L MPC engine exactly one month ago (picked up on 4/16/25). I only have 815 miles on it now. Today, as I was driving to work, I got a “Powertrain Warning”. I pulled over and shut the truck off and restarted it and the warning was gone. I suspected it was just a computer glitch. As I left work for lunch, I started the truck and I got another warning. This time the warning read “Service Engine Soon” and “The engine control system has detected that the turbocharger wastegate may be stuck closed and requires service to prevent possible system damage.”
Yikes! I am disappointed but I will see what the service techs say. Appointment is next Tuesday… stay tuned…

Mine threw the wastegate code when it was really cold. Seems it froze shut

Update:
I drove my Ranger in to my dealership this morning, and I showed the assistant service manager the warnings that I posted here. She asked if I saw them on the vehicle, or only on the FordPass app. I told her that they appeared on the dashboard of the vehicle. She said “Ok. No problem. This should be covered by your warranty. The only reason that it might not be is if a rodent chewed through something.”
I waited for about an hour, and she came out to see me. She told me that the tech found that some parts were missing from the factory, and it was recommended that I do not continue to drive the vehicle so they were going to give me a loaner. I asked if she had more details on exactly what was missing. She explained that “some clips on the turbo wastegate are missing from the factory.” She explained that the parts would take a day or two to get and that my vehicle should be ready by the end of the week.
I am now driving a 2024 Ranger XL 2.3 loaner. I can now better appraise the differences between the older 2.3 and the newer 2.3 MPC engines. The newer engine certainly feels much more torquey and it sounds much deeper than this 2024 that I am now driving. Also, the brakes on my ‘25 bite much harder on initial application.
I will update again as this repair process unfolds…

Your 2025 has the upgrade brakes electronic rather than vacuum boosted.

thanks for keeping us in the know. i'm supposed to take delivery of my 2025 2.3 this week sometime so I will look around the wastegate to see if i see any of these clips or anything that doesn't look normal. hopefully yours was just a one off or something.

did they say anything about the 2nd error you got regarding the powertrain malfunction? i'm wondering what that one was about.

No. I thought about asking about the Powertrain malfunction, but I did not want to push my luck. Seriously! If when I go to pick it up, there is still no charge I will certainly ask about it! As it was, I had to show my drivers license and disclose my insurance company to get the loaner, but then she also asked for a credit card for a $100 “hold” - “in case there are any other incidental charges”. I am not sure what that means!….
I had received the powertrain warning first - earlier that same morning and I shut the truck off, and restarted it and the fault cleared. I was driving along steadily on a back road when it first occurred. When I went to leave work that same day at lunchtime, the powertrain warning showed first, and the engine warning occurred only a few seconds later. Both occurred before I had even driven 10 feet.
