Looks good, nice start to the endless list of things you need to spend money on (I mean things you need)
The list is indeed always endless. Haha

Im not to impressed with the ford performance calibration on my 2.7
It definitely shifts better but power difference is not noticeable to me. I only have maybe 30 miles on the tune in a week and a half though.

That's good to know. Though I do remember that when I did the tune on my 2019 Ranger, it took about 500 to 1,000 miles before I felt like it had sort of "figured everything out" and gave me the performance I was expecting, which makes sense since it's an adaptive tune that has to relearn a bunch if things post calibration. Hopefully, that'll be the case for the 2.7L as well.

Honestly, if it does nothing more than tighten up the throttle response, I’ll be happy, especially since I’m paying for most of it with Ford Reward Points. Right now, it feels like there’s a delay between when I put my foot down and when the engine even begins to build revs. It doesn’t really feel like turbo lag; it feels more like a delay programmed into the drive by wire throttle system, which I’m not a fan of.

Id say it helps with the feel you are mentioning for sure. Its a better driving experience at the least.

That's good to hear. At least the 2.7L Nano isn't an underpowered engine to begin with.

Hey Peter. Had a chat with Dom yesterday at Phil Long. I'm scheduled for my tune installation for next week. Unfortunately, only 2 of my recalls can be attended to at the same time as the other 2 do not have the solution and/or parts.

How did it go?
Funny story, apparently the ProCal 4 tuner that comes with the calibration had somehow already been VIN locked to another vehicle. My best guess is that someone previously bought it from the dealership, installed the tune, and then returned it "unused". Because of that, I’ll have to go back in tomorrow so they can use a different one for the calibration. Slightly annoying, but definitely not the end of the world.

That's a great "take the high road" approach Peter. Kudos to you for being understanding and not chastising the dealership or the accessories department. I'm anxious to hear your report.

Well, I’m going in first thing tomorrow morning to have it installed, so I should be able to post my initial impressions sometime tomorrow afternoon. I should also be able to compare how much of a difference the tune mades out of the gate on the 2.7L vs. the 2.3L.

Bummer but hopefully you can get it done tomorrow.

Okay, so my initial impressions of the Ford Performance calibration for the 2.7L EcoBoost are that it provides a modest improvement in power, along with a moderate improvement in areas like throttle response and shift logic.

Having previously installed the Ford Performance calibration on my 2019 Ford Ranger XLT FX4, I would say that the gains from that tune felt more substantial. This is likely because the 2.3L tune results in an increase of approximately 60 lb-ft of torque, whereas the 2.7L sees a gain of around 30 lb-ft.

That being said, the 2.7L was already a more powerful engine than a Ford Performance tuned 2.3L. The calibration for the 2.7L widens that gap slightly, but not by a dramatic amount.

Overall, if you have a 2.7L Ranger that you daily drive and you’re looking for a bit more performance while maintaining Ford warranty support, it’s not a bad option. However, the cost may or may not be worth it depending on your expectations and goals.

If you’re looking to extract the maximum possible performance from a tune, there are definitely aftermarket options that will provide greater gains, though they may come with increased risk in terms of warranty coverage and long-term reliability.

For me, I would say it was worth it, but keep in mind that my Ranger is new and serves as my daily driver, so maintaining factory warranty support and reliability was important to me. I was also able to cover more than half of the cost of the tune and installation using Ford Rewards points, which definitely changed the overall cost-benefit calculation in my case.

One extra benefit is that you get the ProCal tool with the tune, so you can do things like change your tire size after installing larger ones. Now my speedometer isn’t inaccurate anymore.
