2026 Ford Ranger Raptor vs 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X - Detailed Comparison

I had a 25 at4 for a bit, the 2.7 makes acceptable power but after the 3.0in thr RR, the fun factor and smiles are much more on the RR

the physical buttons on the at4 were nice, and preferred the shifter knob. the white interior on the at4x was a silly choice.

10 years ago I owned a 2005 Volvo S60R, the Raptor is the first vehicle I've owned that competes with the coolness of that Volvo.

My wife's DD for about three years was a 06 S60R and if you ask her she'd tell you that was her most favorite vehicle she's had to date but the more she drives her RR and the more I do to it, per her approval first since I get in trouble for taking liberties with HER truck eyes rolling, to make it standout from the rest but whether she would admit it or not her RR is closing in on being her new fav. She REALLY liked banging through the gears in her S60R so I'm note sure her RR will ever surpass it but I'm trying.

It's funny because I really like how the Canyon AT4X looked especially with the AEV package but she never liked them and was pretty pissed when she thought I was going to get one for her and was thrilled when I got back from the test drive and told her the motor was kind of a noisy weak suck and lame.

I had a Sierra 1500 AT4 until I went back to a SD diesel last year and even though I'm kind of a Ford guy I really liked my GMC a lot it was a great truck and the 6.2 gasser had really good power but as good as that little Canyon AT4X looked the motor was a lame duck and huge disappoint.

My S60R was also manual. I had a black sapphire with atacama interior. That car way way ahead of its time. They were doing adjustable suspension in the 2000s. Ive got to say though, the way the paddles work in the RR is pretty darn good. Obviously no clutch involved but they do give you a lot of control over the transmission vs other "manual mode" automatics that Ive driven. I have also wondered if the RR would take top spot for me over the S60R, it is very very close. They are essentially the same power to weight ratio, but then the RR can just pull off the hiway onto gravel without slowing down. The S60R was a very special car vs the base S60 and Ford has basically done just as good of a job making the Raptor stand out vs the base Rangers. Different body work, different motor, exclusive colors. They are my #1 and #2 favorite vehicles ever, I just can't decide the order yet lol. I do know the RR is the first vehicle to put a smile on my face the same way that S60R did since I traded it for my 18 ZR2.

I’ve been thinking that a Ranger Raptor would be my next truck but I just noticed that Colorado ZR2s are dipping to $47k-ish near me. $12-15k difference is no joke - my last truck was a 2016 Colorado and I drove a ‘99 F-150 V6 for 200k miles so the ZR2power doesn’t really bother me.

What does bother me is that my 2016 Z71 had a bunch of annoying electrical issues. Nothing that kept it off the road (longer than it takes to swap a battery) but annoying.

Ultimately I’m just feeling like I’d rather stall and see if the Ranger Tremor comes out and what it does to pricing across the line. I don’t need a Raptor but I do want full time 4WD and the 2.7 V6 would probably suit me better since it’s happy with 87 octane.

Unless you procal tune you can use 87 octane in the stock RR 3.0
