I've had for quite a few years and used on different trucks, saves having to use one of my trailers for picking up long items at the hardware, lumber store etc...10 foot from front of bed,
3 foot from tailgate. Keeps load weight off tailgate.
I've hauled 16 -18 foot long no problems.

Can adjust width of arms for plywood, siding etc....This one has 750 lbs load limit Can change shafts position to carry things up high off roof rack etc... This the one I bought some time ago.

Cool, that is an affordable solution. I just wish I could figure out how to transport a half yard of dirt that way…..

Is it pretty noisy over bumps? Do you use a receiver hitch “quieter” to reduce the motion? Can you comment on this review?

Well let me see here. If I needed a half yard of dirt. Mysellf, Il'd just cover the bed area with a tarp and some up the sides, long enough to fold back over the dirt and put it in the bed. Putting as much forward of the well wheels as possible. A full yard, no, that would be over the payload of 1818lbs Ford claims. Which is all things in the truck, you, passengers bed of dirt whatever. A yard of dirt depending on how moist and what the make up of it is will weigh about 2000- 2800lbs roughly, 1/2 yard should run 1000-1400lbs roughly. I have carried 1000 lbs of feed in the bed, with out as much as a blink outta the truck and the 2.3L. She was sitting with still a tad left to make it sit even front to rear.
It's not noisy at all because it's under a sight load when adjusted right, so unless your whole load is jumping up and down its good to go. You dont assemble it until your picking up the load otherwise I could diffinetly see a lot of noise coming from it just flopping around on the back. Lol. I do not use anykind of receiver quieter when I use mine. Ive probsbly had 5-600lbs on mine, dont think I'd trust more than that though. I see the review but mine doesn't have but about half that play he is showing if that. They're all overseas made more than likely and mine is about 5-6 years old and maybe the metals a tad cheaper/thinner nowadays. Hope this helps!

Clever idea.

On my F350 I installed a Curt front receiver hitch, then a couple tracks on the topper with Thule bars. I built a 2" pipe rack that would plug into the front receiver. I could carry 20 foot lengths of pipe and structural steel, in smaller amounts. No longer need to carry stuff that long anymore but but funny I just decided this afternoon I do need a couple 20 foot sections of schedule 40 PVC to avoid glue joints under a patio but Home Depot is only a 15 minute walk so the wife and I will go get it on foot.

I did just finish a HF 4x8 trailer to replace the 8 foot bed when I sold the F350.

I built 2 interchangeable tailgates, one is a heavy duty ramp and the other is for every day use. They swap out in seconds with no tools but can't come off when closed and latched.

I bought the Moskins brand one from Amazon or Ebay> (I cannot remember?) It also adjust to vertical position so I can carry my 16foot canoe on my roof supported at the rear by the goalposts of the bed extender. Its a great piece of equipment and I'm glad I bought it.

You're giving me an idea. Could I use one of those to support the back of an 8 foot rooftop carrier with the front secured to the roof tracks on my topper? With the tailgate closed?

They can mount that way just change the order of the pieces around to go vertical, at least mine can, they're pretty versatile for the cost! :sunglasses:

Sorry, I don't. When I got the Ranger I cut it up and kept the useable 2x2 sections. I made a crude sketch below to show how I made it. It would slide right into the front hitch and I had a couple threaded holes in the receiver so I could tighten two 3/8" bolts into it to keep it solid. I added bracing at the 90, I made a couple upright pieces to clamp to my roof bars to keep the steel centered on the camper shell rack. Then I would bungee it in the "wishbone" on my home made front carrier. It would easily hold 20 footers but I was careful not to overload it weight wise.

Now when I buy steel I have to plan more so I can cut some of it at the supply yard to get it home, but I don't do much steel work anymore. When I built the trailer I cut the 20's into 12 & 8 and flatbedded them home on the trailer chassis with tiedowns and red flags.
