Alternator size/amps ??

I 'searched' a downloaded owners manual but didn't see.
On the Ranger5G forum is says 170-180. Anybody agree or have
first hand knowledge.

Why asking. We're getting a camper and down the road a bit I'd like to add DC-DC charging via
a Victron Orion XS. If it is 170-180 amps we will be golden siphoning off 40-50 amps to charge
the camper's lithium battery while going down the road.

Thanks for any clues :)

I think it may vary on different trucks. I believe you can go to the parts dept though with your VIN and request a copy of your build sheet which shows everything. On some vehicles you can get the build sheet online but Ford seems to provide it only on personal request.

You might also be able to see the label on your alternator.

In the manual it says the inverter may not output the full 400 watts in drive

12v x 33 amps = 400 watts

So you are probably limited to 30 amps or so off the alternator

30amps. A shame, but better than no amps. For the Orion XS I'd probably just limit the Orions draw from the alternator to 25 amps via the app. You know the 300ah lithium would if given the chance take all the amps the Ranger's alternator could supply. But noted to get even the 25amps to the trailer one would have to go to much larger cable(+ fuse) off the Ranger's battery....looks like 6 gauge would work, 4 gauge for insurance. I bet in the future, given Ford's acknowledgment that people tow and have advanced that science in what can be chosen in vehicles (tow packages, technology packages,etc.), that Ford will someday acknowledge that many people tow campers and would like to seriously charge battery banks in the campers while driving. What that might be I could only guess....2nd battery package? larger or double alternator package? Along with the cable and Anderson plugs on the back?

Start looking in Australia. They're all about the Outback, always camping. Tons of options and setups.

Heres a link to mounting 2nd battery in the inside of the rear fender, but they've got under hood (bonnet) options, converters, etc. It's just one site I've bought from, but they've all got lots of overland accessories.

I've ran Timbrens on a few trucks, and they're good, but if you want to go the airbag option, they have setups for that as well.

Thanks for the info and link Nathan. We're old folk/no off-roading for us but we do boondock a lot in our quest for wildlife photography, often planting in out spot for days waiting for the critters.
We're putting the Timbrens on the 2025 Ranger XLT to help with squat when we attach the Casita Spirit Deluxe. I had AirLift 1000s on the 4Runner we traded this past weekend for the Ranger.

Nathan, I did watch one of the vids from that site and saw this! Now that is living! One thing I really really wish our Ranger had was 12v near the tailgate.

I ordered the ARB dual battery kit from Australia to canada for my 25 xlt. its ford and arb designed. and ford approved. it includes I believe a 25 am dc-dc charger for the battery. I installed another battery same as truck has, for now it was the more economical option for me. but the dc-dc does have LiFePO4 profile to charge on it aswell. was a nice kit. Im sure you could buy just the redarc dc-dc charger and run your own wires to the trailer.

currently have a prototype bracket made to mount my Diode Dynamics D-Switch to. this is ran off the aux battery, will be for all might lighting add ons, and when I finally order the arb on board compressor will run off the aux battery.

already used it to charge my camper batteries a few weeks ago. I have a 50amp Anderson connector under the hood, I plugged my 500watt inverter to. and ran an extention cord to my noco charger in my pup camper. I have 2 8amp hour Noco LiPO4's in the trailer, with a noco on board charger can charge both batteries in 45minutes.. its 2 5amp chargers in 1, and only need less then 450wats to run the charger to charge 2 batteries at once.

I only had to run the truck for 15minutes after the inverter shut off with its low voltage sense when it got down to 11.8 volts after charging for 30 mins at the campsite. I only have 16hrs of power for the lights and fan. I tried running fridge off it, flattened them in like 3hrs. lol so found out I need to upgrade the LiPO4's. waiting for noco to release their dual function deep cycle/start batteries in canada. I am running 2 group 31 powersport batteries. figgured they be even for a small pop up... and 1 8ah battery did run all the lights I converted to led, and the vent fan for 7.5hrs before it died....

Somehow I missed that bracket when I was researching how to install an ARB on my US built 2025 Ranger. I did watch an Australian You Tube that looked pretty complicated compared to this. Looks like with the bracket you only need to remove the wheel liner?

I wonder if the bracket will work for the ARB single? I've found the single to be plenty fast enough for 31" tires.

yeah the ausmotion bracket installs the same as the arb bracket. I want the complete wiring harness and everything. the D-Switch is basically my upfitter switches. so will be wired into that for my trigger on and off. and I have a 50ft air hose reel.

the ausmotion bracket is only for the dual. you might be able to make a bracket that can attach to the ausmotion. but the bracket sits in the bed. and then goes through the pan to the compressor mount. for me the compressor support will be behind my swingcase.

the DSwitch can do soo much. it has this controller. rgbw back lit. bluetooth app. you can use your phone as a wireless winch controller, a switch panel. customize how it does the lights. right now I have that small lightbar in the grill, on the grille button, one of thr blanks next to it is the button for my amber strobes in the grill. that also strobes the lightbar during the day. and I can hit the grille light button, and it will override the flashing bar and go steady burn.

I have one of the 3 programable trigger wires set up for the highbeam. and then the ignition wire, and night mode wire. you can also use the dswitch while the vehicle is off. and program low voltage shut down, so if your camping and have side lights, and the battery gets too low, it will kill the power.
