Hi
I just realised that my one year old Ranger doesn’t do start/stop saying he needs to charge. The battery is a Ford AGM 80AH 800A, manufactured by Johnson Controls.
From time to time I got a message telling me that the car went to power saving mode. Even after extended use.
I charged the battery with an external charger and did some tests. The cranking health seems to be ok, but max charge ist only around 80%.
Fully charged (says the charger) voltage is still only around 12.5v, and the in use voltage drops to around 11.9V. The alternator delivers 14.4V.

Some questions:
1. I read that Ford has - for environmental reason - programmed the max SOC to 80%. Can somebody confirm this? Means without external charger you’ll never get 100%?
2. What voltage do one measure on a charged battery? Shouldn’t it be more than 12.5v. How much would you have after one night in the morning?
3. Can I swap the battery without reprogramming the BMS? If not what parameters does the BMS need?
4. How can I prevent this issue for the future with a new battery?
4. Is there any other software than FORScan to programm the BMS, compatible with MacOs or better on iOS?
Thanks for sharing your help!

Ford has a battery problem here in the US. It should be under warranty. Don't know how things work in Spain but your dealer should replace, no charge

I have a 2024 2.3 XLT FX4 4X4 with the same battery issue. Took it to ford tech says battery was fine. Since I only drive it maybe once a week he said to put it on a battery tender? Doesn't seem right?

I put an odyssey battery in mine and added a pigtail for my noco charger when I installed the new battery. I use the original battery with an inverter even though it’s not a great deep cycle battery; at least it’s not going to waste.
