Electrical System/Brake Failure

Deleted member 13915

I have a 2025 Ranger Lariat with 1700 miles on it. The other day I drove it on a short ride of about 6 miles. During the drive a strong odor of burning brakes entered the cab. Upon returning home, all four brakes had been dragging, not enough to slow the truck but definitely dragging. All four rotors were very hot.

After parking the key fob would not lock/unlock the doors. The truck would start but not with the key fob. It did start and unlock/lock with the Ford App. The doors would lock/unlock with the door handle.

Yesterday it went to the dealer. Brakes did not drag and the key fob worked. The vehicle sat overnight in the service entrance and today the battery was completed dead and the truck would not start. Jumped, no start. New battery, same issue. Dealer finally got it started and moved to a service bay. Multiple modules showing error codes, brake booster module and some other module in the headliner. Dealer is trying to pinpoint which module(s) went bad.

Has anyone else seen/heard of this? I will update when the issue has been resolved.

Hopefully it's not a lemon...

Dealer called today, the main issue was with the R Canbus which controls several things which included the key fobs, the signal from the TPMS and other functions. The tech found that during assembly the Canbus connector was not properly secured and had come off. It's located in the headliner.

The brake issue was caused by a leaking front caliper and the loss of fluid. They are replacing all of the pads and the caliper.

I'll follow up when I get the truck back next week.

12-27-2025 Update

Now the dealer is telling me that the EBB Module is bad and of course they are on backorder with an unknown ETA.

Sounding like a lemon at this point.

So, without the other issues, the battery being dead and a new one not fixing it and not being able to jump it makes me think somehow the starter and or the alternator went bad.
But with all the other stuff, yeah this might be a lemon.
Just curious, did you buy yours after the brake booster recall went out?

Purchased on 10/8/2025, no recalls under my VIN.

I think Ford has used the cheapest modules they could find in China.

Wow.... We've now jumped to lemon just because the Canbus wasn't properly plugged in and a leaking brake caliper? Methinks that's a bit premature.

I think I would want them to replace the rotors as well.

Well, Ford repaired/replaced all of the calipers and replaced the battery. The EBB is bad and is on back order. First it was supposed to be here on Jan 7th, then then 9th. Now it is supposed to arrive on Jan 19th which will put the truck over the 30 day Lemon Law limit. Has anyone else had to wait for an EBB? The dealer is trying to expedite the EBB but we are waiting to hear from Ford.

Seems like your dealer has at least tried all they can for the issues you are having, including replacing the parts, it's more than what some dealers will do. Hopefully the EBB come in soon, and your truck is back to normal.

Did the EBB come in? Did it fix the issue?

The EBB finally arrived yesterday and all repairs have been completed. However we are not taking possession of the truck and it will remain at the dealer until the buy back is complete. The truck has been out of service for 33 days and my wife refuses to drive or ride in it.

Ford has completed the buyback, switching to a Bronco this time around. The buyback went smoothly and Ford Customer Service was excellent and timely.

Don't bash on China. Ford gets what they pay for. The Chinese make anything your heart or factory desires. At whatever quality you need and can PAY for.

This isn't China's fault. It's Fords.
