They added a 270 pound Go Fast Camper to their new RR, and immediately drove it hard on a technical trail in Colorado. Then they learned the bad news about the bed load limit. And all the video commenters get ugly and attack Ford. This is such very bad public relations for Ford. They just need to fix this with a recall.

Beware - The New Ford Ranger’s Bed Can Break If You Install a Topper!

I don’t understand why Ford can’t supply enough of the parts…! Mine just shipped from Australia.

They refer to the new off-roading video “just posted” but I can’t find it. Anybody have a link?

Yes, it's another bad look for Ford. Their reputation is slowly deteriorating.

I mean yes and no. There is an expectation that a user consults the user manual for a given object as every vehicle is not the same amongst manufacturers. Just because something is industry standard doesnt mean a given manufacturer has to do it. There is some ownness on the owner to do research here.

Manufacturing is hard, even for simple things. Could be a metal constraint, could be the fact the braces are included in other vehicles and they need them there instead of here since its "optional"

Should they of been there in the first place, yeah probably, not gonna argue that.

The reason they should be there is because people expect them to be there. It does not dissolve responsibility of the owner to research their product and look at those things before they do it. Once again, just because something is industry standard, doesnt mean everyone has to do it, because an industry standard is not a hard written rule, it is simply an expectation.

At the end of the day, Ford should of put them there because a lot of trucks are going to be damaged because people dont read their manuals or do the research. I wouldnt of known about this, if I had not joined this specific community.

Yes, I truly understand your statements. Just confounds me at least for the low volume RR internationally. What are they saving compared to lost of customer satisfaction. I just believe we live in weird times now.

Does the normal ranger require this? Not sure if I have seen that or not.

If they dont, my assumption is that because the bronco and the normal ranger dont require it, they made the decision to not do it so they didnt have to adjust the manufacturing process. Obviously, they have now since adjusted it since if you order the Ford Top they install them automagically.

If the normal ranger does, then yeah just some weird bean counter / marketing decision.

And I think that's part of the issue. The owner's manual doesn't say anything about it. Owner's manual says no slide in campers, but nothing else about ratings on the load box, which is pretty important on a truck. Ford even provides accessory attachment points on the bed rail, but doesn't provide any details on the load ratings of these points.

I do think there's some responsibility for manufacturers of accessories to verify these things as well, hence why companies like ARB have their own bed reinforcement kits for the bed that come with their shells.

I swear at one point the Ford Accessories website had the Yakima Bed Rack listed for the 2024 Ranger, but now they don't. Its pretty egregious that the Maverick can hold a bed rack without some reinforcement, but the Ranger can't.

Overall I think the risk of damage is pretty low, I don't ever plan on having more than about 200lbs mounted above the rails, but it would be an enormous pain in the ass if I did crack the bed and Ford denied the warranty claim.

Outside of lack of info, the issue is only for things specifically mounted on top of the bed (from what i understand). To my knowledge there is nothing around the side or in the bed that these things are required, as the from what I understand the fault has to do with how the bed flexes with stuff on top.

@Ford Motor Company has ignored this long enough that these vids were bound to start popping up. There will be more.
Like you (in fact thanks to you who gave me the lead on a supplier), mine shipped from Australia last week too. After trying to get them here in Canada since March before I took delivery and being unable to (part not even listed on ford’s Canadian parts website lol).
These trucks will become known as the ones you “can’t do truck stuff with” if @Ford Motor Company doesn’t stop ignoring the problem and pretending it doesn’t exist.
