From what I have read, the FX4 is 2WD until 4WD is selected. Mine also has the e-lock Diff, when needed.
The RR has All Wheel Drive where the "smart" drive picks and chooses how to distribute power to the wheels. Yes, the 2025 Ford Ranger Raptor is equipped with all-wheel drive (AWD). It features a sophisticated multi-mode shift-on-the-fly 4Ă—4 system, allowing it to drive either on the front wheels or all four wheels, ensuring positive traction in various conditions.
I had a 2024 Lariat I sold and bought a 2025 Raptor
So I am aware how both work.
4A is available on the Raptor Ranger only and at times is auto selected but can be changed by selecting 2 WD.

RR owner here and I too can confirm that while 4A can be manually selected and is the required setting for one or two specific “drive modes”, the RR’s normal drive mode is in fact 2WD. I would say I drive my RR is 2WD mode more than 95% of the time.

Resultingly, while the OP has other very valid and specific reasons for going with the Lariat with the 2.7 over the RR, the stated 4A/AWD vs 2WD reason is puzzling (to me anyway).

That being said, your Lariat FX4 is beautiful and will serve you very, very well.

Okay, I understand. The RR is also 2WD until 4WD (hi or low) or 4A is selected. Just an added benefit to the RR.

Hey guys, I bow to your experience, I was just going off what was on Ford's website. I was partially correct, partially incorrect.

Either way you have a fine truck that will serve your needs perfectly.

I went from a 2015 F150 Lariat to the 2025 Ranger Lariat 2.7L FX4. I LOVE this truck!!! It is excellent for around the town driving, long distance highway driving and rural unpaved road driving (I do all three). Gets 24mpg highway, 18city. The Lariat meets or exceeds all my needs.
