I’ve got a 2025 Lariat with the 2.7L, and oil changes on that setup are pretty straightforward.

My son is picking up a 2025 STX RWD with the 2.3L, and I’m trying to figure out how service-friendly that configuration is. I’ve looked through a few threads but haven’t seen a clear answer on whether the oil filter access is easier on the RWD 2.3L trucks.

For anyone running a 2025 2.3L RWD—does the lack of a front differential make it easier to access the oil filter from underneath, or is it still tight?

Going in from the top of the engine and reaching down is the easiest way on these 2.3 engines. I've done 4 changes on mine already and it's not too bad. Just have to get a shop towel or rag and wipe out the oil "trough" that runs from the filter down to underneath the engine. Don't want it dripping the old oil on the ground.

Also the factory filter you want is the Motorcraft FL2127. I get mine at O'Reillys.

Just did the first oil change. Since I was already spraying the frame and underbody with ACF-50, I had the truck up on jack stands.

I changed the filter from underneath, but honestly it looks just as easy to access from the top if you prefer that route. I went with a K&N HP-1020—the nut on the end makes removal simple with a short 1" wrench.

Overall, the 2.3L EcoBoost in RWD layout is a dream to work on. Tons of space compared to my 2.7L EcoBoost 4x4. Even transmission service looks straightforward—no exhaust running near the fill/level plug, just wide-open access.
