Something like this?

Yep there goes your Ranger and tractor and trailer. They also do the lower ones too about 10 feet off the ground. Parachute pulls it out then it skims on the ground until it stops.

Born (Ladd AFB) and raised in Alaska, and because my dad was a pilot, we lived all over AK. Including the "DEW Line," specifically Kaktovik. They built a lot of that by dropping D-8s I believe it was out of airplanes. There's a movie where a few of the parachutes do not open. :p

I was in the military for 22 1/2 years and now retired from military and now work at military air base fire dept(15 years) so I see planes all the time now. Don't even have to look at them and I can tell you what it is from sound.

I love the smell of a hangar, and burnt AvGas or JP4. Brings back good memories.

I also was in the Air Force for 22 years. Was a firefighter. I think the sounds of the different planes is forever etched into the auditory part of my brain!

One of my best experiences was standing on the edge of the runway in Umiat, Alaska, as an Everts DC-6 was taking off. When it went by, I could feel the rumble through my entire body!
