Hi Steve! I can look into your Ranger's concern on my end. To get started, could you please send a private message over with the name/location of your local Ford dealer and your Ranger's VIN?

Hello, I would be happy to take a further look into your door concerns. Could you please send us a message with your VIN and mileage?

We all appreciate that Ford is monitoring these posts, but you guys seriously do nothing but gather info only tell us to go to the dealer. That's useless to an owner having issues in a brand new vehicle.

Instead, how about you reaching out to their local dealership, relay the problem to them, and then have the service writer call us to arrange a time to pickup our vehicle and drop off a loaner so we, the owners already put out by something failing on our vehicle, aren't jumping through additional hoops with this customer service theater? Otherwise all your doing is asking us to detail the problem to you before having to do it all again with the dealership... and before the dealership even has a chance to deny the warranty claim (because that's really when you're help is needed).

And before anyone jumps on me regarding this post, this is the same useless corporate PR nonsense Ford does on every forum with a new model. In a couple years they'll stop visiting the forum and nothing will have been solved. It's literally just data mining with extra steps for internal QC wrapped in a feel-good package.
I agree that's probably it. But will be devil's advocate and maybe, just maybe, by them collecting the VIN and some basic info they put that in a database to help determine if a TSB is warranted after X # of complaints on an issue get mentioned instead of relying solely on complaints to local dealer.

This thread at least helped me believe there's not just some ghost in my garage - it's happened I think 2 times, maybe a 3rd within a month, and with others seeing it, there probably is a manufacturer fault. I bet it's from the lack of J braces so when slamming the door or hitting a bump causes the bed side to shimmy and unlatch it. :)

It is always open with a push, and not even a gas cap to prevent contamination by vandals etc. This, I think was a big omission by Ford, and a great opportunity for the after market!
There is an internal gate inside the gasoline port that block anything that isn't using the correct device to "open" the gate 5-6 inches into the hole. It's not possible to just quickly contaminate gas without a special tool, nor is it possible to siphon gas without a special tool.

You even have to use the special "spout" (behind the seats) for manually adding gas with a jerry can. The spout attaches to your jerry can, and goes into the hole in a way to "release" the internal gate and let the gas flow through...otherwise the gas would get redirected to the ground.

Ford vehicle gas ports have been this way for over a decade. It's not an issue and it's just a new design that helps prevent siphoning.

I have the same problem. Possibly it is me leaning over into the bed. I hadn't thought of that.
