Very much the same here, they’re just franchises - not Ford’s fault, but the dealership itself. They’re doing a number on my neighbour at the minute with his transit, similar treatment to a different fault. It’s just a bad experience with that dealer. It’s my fifth Ranger and the only one that’s had any issue whatsoever

I park on a bit of an incline. I typically bring the truck to a halt, put it in neutral, then activate the parking break, release foot from break and then put it in park. That way there is no tension on the gears.
Shouldn’t you not to remove your foot from the pedal break while moving into park from neutral?

Once you're in neutral you want to release any movement leftover that might cause tension before going into park, neutral is the best place to release that.

I didn’t mate, I think I’ve just put it down to a very unrefined gearbox - hasn’t broken yet!

Ive done a bit more reading and apparently its more or less "normal", you can reduce it by waiting for the idle rpm to go down after startup. Others have suggestef going into neutral before drive/reverse but im not doing all that lol

Hi, just reading the post about the gearbox clunk.
Mine has exactly the same problem. Booked it in with my local dealer. They claimed to have upgraded the gearbox software and on testing it they found that it didn't fix the problem, the clunk was still there and they asked me to re-book it in for further diagnostics.
On driving it back home, I discovered that I have now lost the Eco Boost and the twin turbo and that it idles at around 650 to 750 RPM. It used to idle at a steady 900 RPM. It now drives like an underpowered 2.5 ton pickup truck, not like Ford Performance truck that it should be. I think that they unnecessarily messed around with the ECU and changed all of the trucks performance parameters.
I intend to take this up with the dealer. I just hope that they can re-instate the engine performance back to the factory original settings. Can they?
Surely, this is a mechanical issue in the gearbox. Why would do they need to upgrade software or re-map the factory set ECU?
I would welcome your thoughts on this.

sounds like a selinoid is bad. and when you engage a gear the clutch is mistiming it because its not shiffing in sequence. im not a mechanic and have no experience with this so that that with a gr
ain of salt.

Well it’s been in and out of Group1 Ford in Guildford (highly recommend not using them) for the last 8 months. It’s had a new transfer case an a new rear diff, not solved it. It’s now going into Hendy Ford in Eastleigh to see if they can fix the issue. Will post an update when I get one.
Hi, I have got exactly the same issue with mine. Heard the sound yours makes on the video you posted. Mine does the same and was supplied new by Hendy Ford (Crawley). I see that you were going to have it checked by Hendy Ford in Eastleigh. What happened?
Also, when mine went to Evans Halshaw they didn't fix the problem. They just made things worse by implementing the latest software up dates. This changed all of the vehicle parameters like the engine RPM on idle, the way the stop/start works, the exhaust sound etc, etc. My advice to anyone reading this; DO NOT ALLOW YOUR DEALER TO UP-GRADE or IMPLEMENT A NEW VERSION OF THE VEHICLE SOFTWARE!!! YOU WILL REGRET IT !!!
This is a Ford Performance Vehicle and the level of competence of many local Ford dealers only goes as far as doing a basic oil change. They shouldn't meddle with vehicles they know nothing about.
Also, my under dashboard moulded fabric covers that hide the steering column, wiring, and the tops of the pedals wasn't fitted back. I have complained about this and they are searching for it in their workshop! These are like "hens teeth". They are not fitted to the lesser models.
Can you or any one send me pictures of their moulded under dashboard fabric covers? Mine definitely had them because the top of my shoes have been rubbing against them for the last two and half years!
Would welcome some help from any New Raptor owner and my request for photos as above of both the drivers side and passengers side moulded fabric panels which fit under the dash board.
Stoogey, if you pick this up; would it be worthwhile comparing notes?

So it went in for an SOS malfunction to the Hendy Truck/Commercial vehicle site last week, they seem to have a much better understanding of these things than any of the car sites do. I’ve booked it in with them in April as that’s when the warranty runs out.

Mines been mapped to 480bhp(ish) and the gearbox hasn’t broke yet, I did a gearbox service on it last week and it has made a noticeable difference to the way it drives/doesn’t clunk as often.

I’ll let you know how I get on.

Thanks for the update on yours and for the photo under the drivers side dashboard.
It seems that we have the same age vehicles. My warranty comes to an end on April 27th - I am thinking of getting the Ford Protect extended warranty - it’s over £1,500 for a year. I want my gearbox clunk fixed asap - it’s going in again to a local Evan’s Halshaw Transit Centre on 2nd April,
Impressive BHP on yours! Who did the remapping for you and how much was it?

A friend did mine who’s got some experience with mapping his own motors. I had a bit of an ‘experience’ with a couple of tuners when the Raptors ECUs first got cracked, wasn’t great…

The gearbox should be covered past your warranty if you’ve raised the issue now and it still isn’t resolved past it expiring, talk to Ford UK, they’re a bit slow, but do try to help. All these dealers are just franchises and couldn’t give a f**k…

update for you, it went into Ford, they’ve done a relearn on the TCU (which I’ve done before, that didn’t fix it, it’s already had a rear diff and transfer case last year, so they’re throwing a new gearbox at it. Just waiting for the warranty to approve it.

They replaced the gearbox under warranty, completely gone. Makes absolutely no noise when going between P, D & R. Gear shifts are a lot smoother too.
