insulating upr catch can from excessive heat

how many of you guy do this?
To insulate an UPR catch can for summer temperatures, consider using a catch can heat shield to prevent engine heat from directly warming the catch can. Alternatively, foam pipe insulation, similar to what's used for pipes in homes, can also help reduce condensation buildup by insulating the catch can and hoses

from what i understand if the catch can is hot it wont trap the moisture?

Moisture isn’t any more harmful than driving on a humid day. Yes It technically doesn’t help with power because it lowers air density but that’s another conversation. Insulating those pipes in a hot engine bay will only slow energy transfer until the pipes reach the ambient temp of the engine bay. All bets are off it those pipes are in close proximity to the exhaust or your daily commute is only like 2 miles.
Water collected in the catch can is only an issue if it freezes and splits the can in the winter.
For my catch can I haven’t worried about insulating the pipes. If I was running a race team and was looking for F1 performance maybe a few engineers would be seeing if there was any gains in this area.

Condensation isn't the enemy, but a combination of; condensation, oil and fuel vapor is. Under pressure and high heat carbon forms. I’ve run water injector kits on several engines and it actually keeps the engine much cleaner and provides better combustion performance.

CC‘s in general will capture; condensation, oil and fuel. I run a single port UPR CC and your find in its present mounting location, there are all three present.

Additionally, you don’t want condensation freezing in the lines. So, you want to keep the CC in a higher heat location for this issue and purpose.🇺🇸

I’ve never insulated mine. And i ran my mustangs hard. Always collected a good bit too.

yea. Never ever heard of insulating a catch can until i saw it on this forum!
Neither have I. Never insulated one on several automobiles.

UPR may tell you to insulate to stop it freezing overnight in zero temps but as long as the CC is emptied regularly, there’s not an issue with one that is partially filled.

Soon as the engine warms up the condensation unfreezes. As long as fluid level is not equal to the inlet or outlet hoses, there’s no issue.

If the CC hasn’t been emptied for quite sometime and is full, then it will cause a blockage of the crankcase ventilation system.

Northern tier states with sub zero temps, I’d personally remove it during the winter months.🇺🇸
