Hi has anyone else had this issue? It is widely reported on the F150 forums. Neither Ford nor the dealer have a fix.

It has caused me ear damage and I fear driving the vehicle.

These are the circumstances that lead to the fault.

Listening to music via wireless Apple CarPlay. Phone was on apx 20 percent charge.

Stopped in carpark, exited and locked vehicle.

Returned to vehicle, entered as usual, placed on wireless charger in car.

Immediately reversed. Noticed a flicker in the reversing camera.

Placed car in drive and drive out of car park.

After 2-3 seconds a loud crack occurred followed by intolerable static noise that would not stop.

Static did not stop if I turned audio off with the on off button, would not respond to volume control, tried changing inputs, continued once I turned the engine off. Static continued after hard sync reset.

Static would only stop when I opened and closed the driver side door which shut down Sync.

The resolution was to get out of the car, lock the car, wait a few minutes and get back in. I found this on the F 150 forum.

The amplifier runs anytime the keep alive is on. This allows the radio to be off, yet still use handsfree. If the amplifier develops a problem, they the "static" will be there, radio, cellphone, notwithstanding.

I recall a TSB on this, but I don't remember the gist.

Pull the radio fuse to stop static through speakers while diagnosing source. I'd start with checking all connections in/out of unit.

One thing to try is a hard reset of Sync. This is accomplished in the new gens by simultaneously holding the steering wheel mounted volume down button and skip track forward button for 10 seconds. Sync will restart.

Tried soft and hard reset - did nothing. The only thing that made the loud static noise stop in my Ford Everest was getting out, locking doors, wait 2 mins, get back in.

Does anyone think it could be related to a bad ACM?

Ford USA seem to be replacing some ACMs. But Ford Australia have no idea and without fault codes they won’t do anything.

Hi,

Happy to give you some general advice from my experience. But if you can provide your model/variant/build year I can try to be more specific.

Hi Peterou812

I was interested in the model specs to know if your variant has the B&O speakers. I'm not sure? Mine has the B&O speakers and they seem to be a common thread among hundreds of cases reported in the USA (F-150).

The F150 Forum was my saviour, as it was the only way I learnt you have to get out of the car, engine off, shut doors, lock doors and then it stops. Not always, but in most cases it seems. I have been told it is the locking that resets the audio system. https://www.f150gen14.com/forum/thr...rical-pop-followed-by-loud-static.9591/page-8

Without error codes I got no joy and was without my car for one month. The issue could not be replicated and there was nothing they could do.

Eventually my dealer agreed to replace the audio control module, which a mechanic friend had told me could be the issue so I requested it. He said sometimes there are faulty batches of audio control modules and was aware of it happening in Rangers prior to the current generation.

It has not happened since, but I do not have any explanation and therefore still lack confidence in the car.

I reported it as a safety issue to the Transport Department but the case was closed without any action ("Your report has been considered and based on this consideration no further action will be taken by the department at this time.")

If more people experience this issue in Australia and report it then it may prevent an accident because I believe the sound is SO FUCKING LOUD AND IMPOSSIBLE TO STOP it will cause an accident if it happens while driving. You can report here: https://www.infrastructure.gov.au/i...orting-vehicle-safety-or-non-compliance-issue

The F150 forum from pages 16 onwards now mentions a software update that could be a fix for the F150 (?) https://www.f150gen14.com/forum/thr...ical-pop-followed-by-loud-static.9591/page-16

But, I do not know if a fix has been issued to dealers in Australia for the Ranger/Everest.

The issue is more widley reported in the USA https://news.yahoo.com/ford-truck-o...si662GI7VCyObpiaG4VcEMctzaB19QHj5DZuq1a7UAXBW

And there are now technical service bulletins in the USA, but not related to the Australian Ranger/Everest:
https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2023/MC-10237370-0001.pdf

https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2023/MC-10238723-0001.pdf

Hopefully there is a fix related to the Australian variants soon. And if anyone finds out let us know.

All the best...

Hi All,

First post so I thought I'd chime in.

The problem with the system lies in the A2B digital audio network syncing at start up, or rather the fact that it gets out of sync between the head unit and the amp.

The B&O has two bus systems. A CAN bus and and A2B bus. At start up there is a CAN message to indicate audio on but the issue is that the A2B network is not actually ready at that point. The A2B network clocks the amplifier at 48KHz but because it's not quite ready the clocking systems then get out of sync resulting in the loud static. The issue can only be resolved by letting the car go to sleep.

We've been working on a full PNP system to replace the B&O and we also ran into this issue and we've had to work around the limitations of this problem as well.

The factory system will only be fixed with a software update to either the B&O of the HU or both.

cheers,

mObridge

mObridge that's the best (and only) explanation I've heard. Thank you very much. I'll look into whether or not Ford have a software update. Hard to know though as I can't seem to get a straight answer from Ford.

Always happy to add to the technical discussions having dealt with these cars for a few years now.
