Not even sure the feature is practical for me, but out of curiosity, I tested the lane assist feature a few times and it doesn't seem to work. Turned the feature on with the button and it didn't work. Tried again while using cruise control and didn't work there either. When I turn it on, there is an icon on my display showing that it is active, but it only VERY occasionally turns green (which tells me that maybe its working). Whats the deal with this feature and when does it and doesn't it work?

My truck lives on a remote island, so maybe its just not mapped or maybe the lane markers just aren't clear enough? Or maybe it only works above some speed which I rarely reach on my roads?

Just curious what activates the feature?

Lane Assist is only active from 65 km/h (the icon turns green).
On the highway with intelligent cruise control, it's "almost" autonomous driving.

Gotcha. That makes sense. Pretty rare for me to be above 40mph for long stretches. Mostly dirt roads and beach driving, but was just curious about the feature.

It's practical over long distances, you just hold the steering wheel and the truck takes the turns by itself and stays centered in its lane (if the road markings are present).

Mine does not work on back country roads where road markings (center and side lines) are either not existent or very well warn. My icon on 2024 XLT will be grayed out when not active and turned on.

Lane Keep Assist is different than Lane Centering Assist. For LKA, you won’t notice anything unless you drift out of the lane markings.

Lane Centering Assist is used in conjunction with Adaptive Cruise Control. If it’s not working, you may have it turned off within your settings.

There are also different modes for LKS in the center stack:

The lane keeping system uses a forward looking camera mounted on the windshield to monitor vehicle movement within the lane of travel.
When the camera detects a drift out of the lane of travel, the lane keeping system alerts the driver by vibrating the steering wheel, or aids the driver by providing a small steering input to move the vehicle back into the lane of travel.
The driver can select one of three modes:
  • Alert (if equipped)
  • Aid
  • Alert + Aid

Switching the Lane Keeping System Mode

  1. From the settings menu, press Driver Assistance. See Center Display.
  1. Press Lane-Keeping System.
  1. Press Lane-Keeping Mode.
  1. Select a mode.
Note: The system stores the on or off setting until manually changed. For some markets, the system defaults to the ON setting at every Ignition cycle.
