HELP !! Somehow gouged the gearshift knob on my 2024 Lariat (has the shorty gearshfter). Local Ford parts says you have to buy the whole shifting assembly to get a new knob - $498 ....... no thank you. If I can remove just the knob I may be able to work on the gouge to make it look better. Has anyone done this - looks like maybe the plastic cover on top pops off-- to maybe give you a way to get it the knob off ??

Id check part yards for any salvaged trucks to see if they have that part..I dont see anything wrong with the picture you uploaded. What's the issue?

You can use the online Ford 24/7 Ask Center with mechanics on duty. Google it and ask them. It is possible that the chipped stubby shifter plastic piece could be a separate trim part that can be removed using a plastic pry tool and replaced with a new OEM or salvage yard part. You need to find an exploded diagram of the shifter to see if that plastic piece has a part number. There are several Ford parts websites that have diagrams so you should be able to find the shifter. The only other thing I can think of is you removing and replacing the shifter assembly, for which you might need a shop manual or take it to a body shop and have it done.

The gouge is on the other side - just showed a picture of the knob for clarification of which one I have.
Thanks for all of the suggestions
