Mine has been totally silent, rattle wise, up until about a month ago when the morning temps started to near the 30F to 35F range.

It makes that rattle for maybe a second then it's gone and it only does it after sitting overnight or extended periods of time.

I'm a gear-head and some what OCD, but it's not at or to a point where I'm going to let it worry me.

I've heard/seen videos where it's definitely noticeable and much louder for longer periods of time.

Mine makes a similar noise, def need the hood up to hear it. I thought it was the oddest thing and had flashbacks to when I was shopping for used trucks and couldn't afford a new one. I was like damn, the engine shouldn't rattle like that fresh off the lot! It's not causing any issues, but definitely sus. Cam phasers?

I’m thinking the split second of rattle is oiling at start up, not an expert for sure but my thought.

Mine is definitely more subtle and ocd is strong with the ranger for sure. Im on the same page. Probly gonna look in too a oil bypass or just do more frequent oil changes to play it safe. If it is a cam phaser deal, I heard there's no engine damage associated with that. It's an annoyance at best.

Hi everyone,

Can you help me identifying why I do have this weird noise on my Ranger Raptor?
I’ve noticed an unusual noise when the engine is idling. The noise is more noticeable at idle, both when the engine is cold and warm, and it sounds like a broken walkie-talkie or static interference, occurring at irregular intervals (it doesn’t sync with the RPM). It’s hard to determine if it persists when accelerating, as the normal engine and turbo sounds seem to mask it.

So far, the vehicle runs perfectly, with no warning lights, power loss, or noticeable performance issues. I’m wondering if this is a normal sound for this engine, perhaps related to the turbo system (bypass valves or wastegate), or if it could indicate something like a small air leak or a component that needs adjustment.

I just received the center dash mount from ProClip and paired it with a MagSafe adapter. Works great!.

Mine has started a slight rattle but is almost impossible to hear when hood is closed

Seems normal to me. Mine sounds the same. 1,200 miles and built in late September 2024.

Here's mine
Every one of those sounds like bad phasers. Ask me how I know...

Did you get yours replaced? Post a video of a cold start with the hood open so that we can compare.

I'm at 4k miles now and no change in sound. And that's with starting it on these bitter cold single digit days.

I'm not worrying about it.

I’m coming from a 2023 F150 with a 3.5, and I thought ford had mostly resolved this issue. I take delivery on my RR in about 3 weeks, and all these cam phaser threads have me sweating bullets. It looks like every truck in this thread has it. Is this problem really THAT rampant with the RR?

I'm coming up to 8,000 miles and my "bad cam phasers" still sound exactly like they did when I bought the truck. It's normal. I stopped worrying about it long ago.

The dude that claimed all of the videos in this thread were bad still hasn't posted a startup video of their own, btw.

As I said mine is a gen 2 raptor, not a RR but here is a video.

I hear that sound everyday when my neighbor starts their Expedition 3.5 ecoboost. Fortunately my Ranger Raptor doesn't do it and it has 16,000 miles.
