My Miata is specific. There are only specific Mazda and one Wix that works correctly with the Skyactiv due to the oil system 2 stage PSI. For my 2.7 EB I am going to use a synthetic media filter over a cellulose media. It has a finer filter and better flow. There is always a plus and minus here. Synthetic media needs to be backed with a metal screen to keep the fibers from breaking and cost more.

Unless you or someone else here can cite, with data, that this method isn't the best option, there is no reason for anyone to choose otherwise. The internet is full of people who love to speculate and oil change threads are epic in their hilarity. This is nothing new. As I posted elsewhere, if you want real data, you must do sample analysis. This is how fleet service is done and provides the best information from which to make good decisions regarding service intervals.

https://www.blackstone-labs.com/ is but one option. Try it. You'll be playing like the pros.
As I’ve mentioned in other threads, Blackstone labs analysis is what makes me ignore the manufacturer recommendations. With my last bmw with a 3.0 i6 my oil’s tbn would be below 2 at only half of the manufacturer recommended interval, regardless of oil brand I used.

Wix has a Skyactiv oil filter, 57002. Made in Mexico. Maybe the same as that middle one. (-MV) The rest will fit but not approved by Mazda. I have used all three, present stocked up on Tokyo Roki.

I like to pump most of the old oil out thru the dip stick and drain the rest thru the drain valve. There is more control and less mess under the truck imho.

i just did my oil this afternoon. i thought it was going to be the easiest oil change ever till i forgot to put the oil pan bolt after i tried to fill the engine with the new oil. that sucked, 38 dollars in oil straight through the engine to the drain pan.

anyways, i thought i would try that valvoline premium 5/30 that has the ford spec on the back label and it was super nice looking as it went into the pan with the other 6 quarts i already drained. what a freaking dumbass thing to do.

anyways, i used a mobil 1 filter, the 6 quarts of mobil 1 synthetic with the ford spec on the label that i had in the garage, and i had to buy an stp air filter from autozone because there were no motorcraft, fram, anything at walmart.

so, my super easy oil change became i pain in the ass and made me mad. i did easily reach down from the top and grab the filter to spin it off so that was good. thats still the easiest way to take the filter off to me. i need to find my fumoto valve and hose

Amazon has several. I picked one up for around $16. I changed the fluid in the hydro drives on my zero turn with it. I used it to pump the new 15w50 into the units since the fill ports were on top.

2 quarts left!?

When I suck that oil I get 6.5L, almost 7 quarts.

Never cracked the drain plug but I guess it would be less than a quarter of a quart...

You're doing something wrong there I think.

When I'm going thru the dipstick hole I do feel a resistance at some point and have to wiggle it out to get past to the bottom of the pan
