I picked up my Lariat two days ago from my dealer. Today, as I was walking behind the truck, I noticed a large gap between the taillight and the body. I compared it to the other side and it looked as it should. I dropped the tailgate to take a closer look, and saw something a bit surprising! There were NO screws holding the taillight in. The only thing keeping it from coming off was the tailgate. With the tailgate down, I touched the taillight and it came completely off. Needless to say, I contacted my dealer and he was mortified. I took it back and they secured the light back in place. The moral of the story…make sure you inspect your new truck very carefully!!

Damn, thats not right. I feel like Ford needs to be notified of all the QC they missed at the plant. Also, how the dealership missed that doing their PDI.

I know…right?? I’m not sure if maybe they removed them when putting the spray in bedliner in the truck and forgot to reinstall or it actually left the assembly line like this. I’m leaning towards the latter. When the taillight came off, the screws holding the plastic guides the taillight slides into were out about halfway.

Theres no way that the only Ranger that the dealership has probably received in a year didnt have everyone there walking around it and looking at it. Theres no way all the techs didnt do a walk around. It only takes one idiot with two straight eyes that look in the same direction to notice an odd gap in the taillight and fender.

Shouldn't the other two holes to the left of the tail lamp have inserts, too, to prevent water from corroding the screw holes?

I asked my dealer about those as well. He said they’re for the bed extender and that was pretty much it.

OK. It would be interesting to know if someone without the bedliner has those tapped holes filled with plugs. Congrats on the truck.

Damn Ford. Perhaps that raise wasn't warranted.

plus the ford reps took rangers to dealerships months ago to teach the salesmen how to market and sell the features. they have already seen these trucks and gotten familiar with them.
Fair enough. I guess I was just hoping for a little more attention to the PDI process.

Also check your AC. Mine only blows hot air. Didn't find out until I got a couple hundred miles into my vacation trip. Will have to get it looked at when I return home. No time to take it in until I get back, unfortunately.
