Hi, new guy from miami FL here

I am thinking of ordering a 2024 ranger raptor in shelter green metallic and I have these questions, if you are so kind:

1- how reliable is 3.0L ecoboost and 10 spd auto transmission ? Is there any problem (or do you expect a problem) with this vehicle that I should be aware of ?

2- what would be an estimate for delivery times at the moment ?

3- are dealers accepting CUSTOM ORDERS for sticker price or are they charging a markup?

4- is there a major difference between beadlock capable wheel (+$1500) and alum wheel? which one would you recommend?

5- what comes with “Cargo Management Rails” ?

6- Bedliner – Tough Bed drop in vs spray in ?

5- if you were to pay cash; does it make more sense to finance through dealer and after a couple of months, request/pay full loan amount or would you pay cash straight up? thinking that there might be some subtleties when doing the former, because usually dealers are interested in financing.

6- if you are familiar with any South Florida ford dealers; what amount for dealer fees or other fees am I supposed to expect? I bought my last vehicle, a BMW, almost 10y ago, so it’s been a while

thanks in advance

ps: I am (was) cross shopping it with a LR defender but the price difference is significant, the LR reliability is suspect and the RR is also very fun on & off road

1. Seems to be reliable, it's been around since 2016.
2. ?? First you need to make sure the dealer has an allocation to order one.
3. Some are selling for MSRP and some are charging ADM.
4. I just went with the regular wheels. I'll probably replace them with aftermarket wheels anyway. I didn't care for the beadlocks enough to pay an extra $1500 for them
5. ??
6. I went with the spray in, but it depends on your needs or wants.
5. With the crazy interest rates these days you're probably better off not borrowing money if you don't have to. Sometimes you can get a rebate for financing through Ford Credit and then refinance later for a better interest rate. But Raptors are excluded from rebates, so that won't work.

I believe the cargo management rails are in this picture. They don't include the crossbars. I found this picture on the Ford Accessories page for the crossbars. The page for the rails has no pictures but mentions that they are:
  • Not for use with the soft-folding bed covers, manual retractable bed covers, bed extender and pivot storage boxes.

Welcome. A lot to unpack here so should address probably the most important thing upfront. The RR is a limited availability build and each dealer currently have one allocation, though there are reports of some having more. Order banks opened last May for 2024 so most have already been committed. There are likely some still available but may be hard to find. To address you questions:

1. This the same combo used in the Explorer ST and last year’s worldwide RR. I’m not aware of any widespread issues or concerns.
2. Production just started this month and none have been delivered yet. If you can find an allocation expect 4-6 months at this point. You may find some stock orders appear at some dealerships or even ones that buyers backed out on if you look around.
3. Dealers will almost always take an order. Just be sure to find out if they have an allocation and where you are on the waitlist. ADM range from 0 - 20k depending on the location.
4. Unless you buy the kit to make them true beadlocks, it is just looks and $.
5. Yes, that is usually the case when dealers are providing a discount for financing kickbacks. In the case of full msrp or adm it likely won’t matter or you’ll also incur finance fees for the loan.
6. can’t help with FL, sorry.

The best plan would be to visit all the local Ford dealers. I suspect there are many in south Florida. Ask about available allocations and get your name on as many lists as possible. If you find dealers willing to take orders without a down payment, can’t hurt to place more than one order either. Just be prepared to wait a while. It may even be a 2025 model at this point.

At this point your two most likely possibilities are:
1. find one on a dealer lot, get it in 3-6 months
2. wait to order a 2025 (or try to get a 2024 and get rolled into 2025 anyway), get it sometime next year

Because it is a new and limited vehicle, the dealer stock is probably going to be marked up significantly. At least at first, but there's debate about this...

Some guys with a 2024 on order seem to think they will be gaining value when they drive off the lot at MSRP. But depending on the state of the market, interest rates, and consumer sentiment... You might find a 2024 for MSRP on a lot because fewer people are looking to drop $60k+ on a vehicle and more people are backing out.

I don't see them gaining value. But in the F150 world Raptors tend to hold value better than other F150s and F150s hold value pretty well.

It's in the bronco raptor and seems to be doing ok. But we won't know until some of the rraptos are on the road.

2- what would be an estimate for delivery times at the moment ? As late as you're getting in, you're likely looking at 2025 at the earliest. Unless you can find a dealer who hasn't presold there's. My small dealer has a wtg list of 15 with one allocation. So long long wait ahead.

3- are dealers accepting CUSTOM ORDERS for sticker price or are they charging a markup? Both, depends on the dealer

4- is there a major difference between beadlock capable wheel (+$1500) and alum wheel? which one would you recommend? Unless you're going to do sand and off road stuff thst requires dropping your tire psi way down, no need for bead locks.

5- what comes with “Cargo Management Rails” ?

6- Bedliner – Tough Bed drop in vs spray in ? After mkt spray in. Drop ins are worthless

5- if you were to pay cash; does it make more sense to finance through dealer and after a couple of months, request/pay full loan amount or would you pay cash straight up? thinking that there might be some subtleties when doing the former, because usually dealers are interested in financing. No incentives on ford performance vehicles. So that would accomplish nothing. Just pay cash and move on.

6- if you are familiar with any South Florida ford dealers; what amount for dealer fees or other fees am I supposed to expect? I bought my last vehicle, a BMW, almost 10y ago, so it’s been a while

thanks in advance

4. The bead lock capable wheels aren't true bead locks. To make them true bead locks you need to buy bead lock rings for around $800, get the tires remounted and replace the stock beauty rings with bead lock rings. Most true bead locks aren't road legal.

I see your point, but these 2 (RR & defender) are the vehicles I like the most atm 🤷🏻‍♂️. New lexus GX and BMW X3 m40i are distant 3rd/4th. I am aware that these vehicles are in different categories, though. So no much rationality into it, I am buying a vehicle that I like A LOT this time, trying to compromise as least as possible.

RR is a truck but very versatile imo. And Defender is in a class of its own, but you gotta pay premium (purchase + high maintenance costs). Lexus GX is a safe choice and the X3 m40i also looked tempting after almost 10y with an X3 that has been bulletproof.

Anyways … RR looks like the better decision to me, although from what I read here, good luck getting your hands on one any time soon.

Also I am a bit concerned with SoFL dealers because many are not transparent and are used to hose their customers (non professional, insane markups, hidden fees, treating you as if you are illiterate and what not); … although I could always get a hold of others non local dealers and see if they are willing to accept an order for MSRP, with well defined fees, straight up without any negotiation … -> what I did with my old X3, after hitting all these no ends roads with bmw local dealers

I will be traveling for a couple of months leaving in 3 days, … as soon as I come back, I will be visiting dealers in Miami, to see what can be done .. or else start making calls

Appreciate all your responses

cheers,

PS: I didnt see a retractable bed cover as an option. is it still available?
