I tapped mine to the driver side brake light using only the harness provided in the GFC. was it a little annoying to figure out what wires were what on the brake light harness, yes but never had an issue in over a year of usage. Truck doesnt know it's there. just have to take a multimeter and a friend to find ground and positive signal for brake light when the brake is depressed. went thru one of those circular holes on the side of the bed with a small wire grommet.
Are you able to provide some pictures?

I tried what he said above and it didn't work right. The brake light came on with the brake but always glowed a dimmer red.

I unfortunately dont have any pictures. Definitely would have been smart to take some. If i get to taking that light out again soon i can snap some. What i can say is just probing to make sure you find a ground that has continuity with a body ground (just raw metal bolt around the fender area) and a positive that inly comes on when the brake is applied is key. Just have to do a bunch of probing and brake application. Theres probably no polarity to the lights so if u get the ground wrong you can probably get some back feeding of current and weird behavior.
