On my Ranger if I look at the average mpg gauge it shows 21.8 avg/mpg. When I look at the trip 2 mpg gauge it reads 22.8. Why the difference?

If number 2 was never cleared then that is the MPGs from day 1 of the vehicle.
I clear 1 each time I refill and never touch 2

I clear 2 each time. 1 on mine seems to keep total elapsed engine-on time (from first time it was run at the factory), total average mph, and total mpg. I tried to reset 1 multiple times, but it never seemed to reset.
Maybe I am doing something wrong. I don't mind seeing the total engine running time, though, kinda like my boats I've owned.

I reset 1 when filling up and reset the other monthly.
