Removing front air dam

Hey guys. Tried to do some reading but I've hit a dead end. I hate the front air dam on my 26 XLT non FX4. I didnt realize the FX4 didn't have the air dam!

I'd like to remove it on mine, but I'm not finding how to remove it. I've seen some posts online (reddit, Facebook) where guys said they removed theirs but with no instructions how.

I rather not cut it yet in case I ever change my mind... Also don't trust myself to make it look clean enough for my liking.

I also thought I read somewhere that the air dam actually provides structural support for the bumper too? Is that true?

The air dam does provide support, not sure if it's critical but I added a regular air dam to my FX4 to try to maximize fuel economy.

That air dam is pretty miniscule. On the other hand.....

Yup the Toyota ones are absolutely atrocious!
And @daytoncarter go figure ha! Do you remember how you installed it? Might help me figure out how to remove mine lol. Curious too if you noticed any fuel economy differences!

Hard to say for fuel economy, maybe 1mpg difference. there are screws all the way across the front from under the fender lips, it ties in between the silver garnish but overall pretty easy to find the screws. At least 10-12.

Read through that and even responded to the thread a while back haha, no answers.
Some people keep talking about a gap but I'm not seeing where a gap would even be?

I'm going to get under it and see what I can figure out. Will take pics.

Looking through it again now, and it doesnt seem super helpful. It's going into full detail on how to remove the entire bumper, including grill covers and wheel wells. Many have said that is not required.

From looking at it for a minute this morning, looks like I just need to pull a dozen plastic screws, slide the air dam out, then replace the screws as the air dam is layered in between a few other bumper components.

EDIT: looks like this little diagram could help though. Sounds easy enough!

that's exactly it, except there may be two more screws under your fender lip trim (there were on my truck).
